What one item/s has pissed off your Partner the most? Or your Bank Manager? In my case that's the same person!!! Doesn't have to be the most expensive item you've ever bought. And indeed, doesn't have to be anything you have purchooselled, as you'll see below!
Mine is the now infamous with Mrs Shockprowl, box of Beast Wars goodies, received FREE from our very own Barricade. Apparently they were junkers! It was this box of goodies, which included many of the characters I wanted most, that kicked started an obsessive purchooselling of Beast Wars figs that lasted a good many months! Mrs Shockprowl blames that one box of goodies as the catalyst that increased my Transformers collection by 50%! Not only that, but the size of it enraged her further. For months after, Beast Wars figs were spread across the carpet, in pitch battle with each other. Marvellous. The figs still boast a faved place in my collection. Only my recent obsessive purchooselling of Marvel Legends has brought me closer to divorce.

Also my mum told me never to mix up toylines when I was playing Ooh no, we mix stuff up in our house all the time! Transformers in Doll Houses, Moshlings invading AT AT Walkers.... Not sure my mother ever really comprehended that different toy-lines were distinct from each other. She certainly didn't get that there was a difference between Action Force, Star Wars and those Fisher-Price 2 and 2/3rds inch figures... (And neither she should really -distinctions like that, and the difference between Gobots and Transformers aren't really the business of responsible adults :-) ) Karl |

My mother's never understood any of it. She didn't comprehend why she was buying me Transformers for birthdays past the age of about 15, and seems now to have given up worrying about it 25 years later when she still is. She calls them my 'men'. "Why do you still play with your men?" she says.

When I was little, I'd get my toys (either TF or TMNT) and sit down by the sofa, so I could play with them while watching cartoons. Would mind my own business, usually being quiet as I was listening to the TV.
Well... My mom's dog (a toy poodle) would be laying across the room, and I'd hear growling. I'd keep playing, and he'd keep growling.
After a while he'd get up and walk over to me. He'd then step partially into my lap, TAKE my toy out of my hands, and return to where he was, drop it, and lay down.
He never chewed my toys, he just didn't want *me* to have them.
He was a very grumpy old man.

I'm hoping she won't notice what was three plastic boxes on the wardrobe is now five.
Got the majority of my BW figures out the loft today. Box for BW, bos for TM & TMII, box for BWII & Neo, box for RID and odd bits from others lines I like, and a box for Generations.
And a cupboard above the stairs filled with G1.
And numerous drawers with lots of small TFs in.
Since they've been untouched for ages most of my Unicron trilogy toys are going back up in the loft.

Blimey there's no way I'd get away with all that down out the loft at any one time! One or two boxes MAX. And even that gets complained about.....
Managed three whole days with my Masterpieces out on the lounge bookshelves last week though!

This may be a topic for another thread, but I do this too and I often wonder about loft storage. Lofts endure temperature extremes and when I was up there the other day it was like an oven. My loose figures up there are in slimline plastic boxes lined with bubble wrap. Is that an acceptable way to do it? I know they won't melt, but will the hot/cold over the years weaken the plastic? Or am I just worrying too much? |

Definitely it will.
I've had some parts weaken/break due to loft heating/cooling. I've had white lego yellow due to being in the wrong container. I've had rubber tank treads snap just sitting there.
TBH I wouldn't be 100% sure about wrapping toys in bubble wrap in an enviroment like that as the bubble wrap might react with them (Nick and, surprisingly, Mrs Furman would be the people to ask!)
Mine was a Sauna today and is ice cold in winter. Several ball jointed toys came out the loft in multiple pieces where the ball and socket had separated in the heat - notably Dark Scream today

The figures are actually in zip lock bags, the bubble wrap is just padding for the bottom of the boxes. But this does worry me. Short of having a temperature controlled storage unit, what can the average fan do to preserve the longevity of their figures? The loft is a necessary evil at the moment. Not that I really have anything of significant value in my collection, but I find myself getting quite wound up by it at times.
Yellowing worries me too - I have my Generations Metroplex out still, away from direct sunlight but still in daylight. It seems ridiculous on the one hand to worry about this, they're toys!, but on the other - I don't want a whacking great yellow Metroplex in ten years' time. Similarly that G1 Jetfire I bought recently is back in its box and hidden. I'd hate to think he survived almost 30 years brilliant white only for me to knacker him.

Yikes, this discussion has got me thinking! All my stuff gets stored in the loft. I'd hate my Stormtrooper army to yellow! Ball joints on figure coming apart?! I don't think it's daft at all to worry about this. The garage wouldn't be any better and the loft I expect.

As there doesn't seem to be a knowledgebase on here about this I shall add it to my list of 'things to look into when there's time'. I'm sure there must be resources somewhere that give advice on toy care.
