Long time readers of The Hub will remember when I got my first little car. It was a little white Peugeot 106 1.4 diesel K-reg and it was decided that Runamuck was far too awesome a name not to use it.
In October '06 I then killed Runamuck driving round a blind corner only to find that there were two cars stopped in the middle of the road. A sad story, but the repair bill was inordinate compared to the £250 value of the car (coincidentally the exact same figure as my fully comp insurance excess! I'm still waiting on that check of 0 pounds and 0 pence only).
I then moved up to a dark blue Ford Fiesta Azura 5dr 1.8 Diesel N-Reg (a mark 3 for those that care). I never settled on a name, but Counter-Punch was a maybe.
Since moving to South of the river in Bristol, this guy has been the target of much vandalism and break ins. Here's some of the details:
04/07/07 - Rear window smashed, nothing taken. Rear seats not pushed forward to gain access to the boot, no other doors unlocked or anything. Random vandalism?
16/08/07 - Boot attempted to be broken in to, no success. Part of screwdriver still in lock, hahahaha.
17/09/07 - Passenger door lock attempted to be forced, broken passenger door handle... That didn't work, so broken quarter panel window to gain access. Rear seats pushed forwards to gain access to the boot, and obviously climbed over seats into the front leaving a nice muddy footprint. Passenger front door then unlocked.
With this one I took my car to the CSI people at the police station, which runs 2-3. I arrived at 2.05 to be told that the CSI don't do it there and I needed to drive all across Bristol to get to a station that does do it. Note - I was told to go to the first station by the person who took my crime report on the phone. 1 hour later arriving at station #2, the CSI guy was nice enough to wait. He then looked at my car for 2 minutes and declared that no forensics could be got from it.
HOWEVER... He did notice some wires hanging out of the back of my stereo which could be misconstrued as being wired to a nice amp or something in the boot. AHA. At least we have a reason for the breakins now. This should be the end of it. But then...
04/10/07 - Driver door bent to gain access (replacement needed) and ignition key tampered with. Passenger door unlocked so likely had an acomplice. Probable joy riders I guess.
Sometime between 3-5/11/07: Both windscreen wipers twisted causing paint on bonnet to be scratched. Also... bonnet dented, so likely they were sat on it.
Then little Counter-Punch decided he'd had enough... 25/11/07 - driving down the M4 past the chippenham junction there's a massive chunk noise and all manner of lights come on on the dash board. I'm told the cam belt has suffered a major asxplosioning and destroyed the engine. Sweet!
So Counter-Punch is dead.
Now I have a 2000 Toyota Corrola SE 1.3. It's red, so let the naming party begin!
Windcharger is a good option, with my long back window, but no sunroof alas.
Now, with the lack of an old easy target car like a Mk.3 Fiesta, I thought the vandalism would stop.
I was wrong.
21/12/07: Broken wing mirror and smashed windscreen. Footprints all over the bonnet. Rumour is someone got beaten up on my street that night on someone's car bonnet. But this wasn't reported to the police. Sweet. I'd had the car 8 days. 8 DAYS! (Also... the rubber on the seal around the rear lock looks displaced, but there are no scratches so possibly not an attempt on the boot).
I don't park on my street anymore.
ANYWAY... NAME THAT CAR!!! GO GO GO!
