Got an urgent appointment to see Dr Quack this morning to get some advice as to whether I'm ok for work this week and also a bit confused by the hospital discharge letter. One med says take for 2 weeks but I have 10 days supply and the box says both to take 'as required' and '3 times daily'. So I will get an opinion.

Signed off work for the week. This will cost me money as I am in first 6 months of job and will lose pay but health more important.

Not within the first six months service, no. I will lose 6 days pay. A worry but I would much rather have a difficult month financially than putting myself at risk of another hospital admission. I've had a big scare and need to look after myself better.

Can you not even get Statutory Sick Pay? It's not a lot but something.

My reading of the contract is: zilch, hence why I have been reluctant to be off but in this instance I must take a pause. I'll survive. Just need to watch the pennies like a hawk for a while.
This is common for many workers and a big reason why some folk don't take sick time or go back to work too quickly. If I hadn't felt so spaced out on meds when I got up I wouldn't have went to to the GP or sought advice on whether a line is required because I was worrying about money.
In my last job, my contract was dated pre-2012 and so I had the better protection for work rights that existed then so when I was sick I could take it off without worrying about how to pay the rent. Newer colleagues did not have that protection so would come in when sick because they could not afford to be off. Welcome to Modern Britain.
I plan to change jobs/location next summer so maybe I will luckier with terms and conditions next time.

Yup. Confirmed by pay slip. Large amount deducted for 'unpaid sick leave'. What a caring employer. Roll on next summer when I can leave!

Pain in distressing area started late last night without warning. Not had it there for a while. It's the kind I find very hard to cope with.

I could use some kind thoughts. Work is such a negative place I could actually feel myself become physically sick as today went on from all the awful and constant problems. By the time I got to the library after work to start an OU essay I didn't have the energy to stay in my chair so gave up and went home.
A glimmer of a plan is forming. Plan to put in for the last week off in January (after the essay after the current one is due on the 23rd of Jan) and to use it purely to sit in the library to fire off as many job apps as possible. Hopefully between now and then I'll get some ideas about where to apply and what to apply for so I don't make the same mistake which put me here.
The combination of anti-social behaviour where I live about which nothing is ever done and working in a very negative place is not doing me any good. It's not helping that the current OU course is the hardest thing I have done in years. I'd be coping better with it if I enjoyed my job/felt safe at home. I have no intention of quitting it though: it's the only hope I've got for the future. I'd be lost without it.
I really wish I had a faith to go to but I haven't felt it.

Was having a pretty good day considering, but just got the news that an old family friend may not have long left. His wifes Mum was my Grannys best friend growing up in the 1930s. She married a Canadian service man and moved to Canada after the war.
Despite that they stayed friends for the rest of their lives. Her daughter (Anne) and Annes husband have remained friends with my parents too since I dont know when. Anne died a few years ago and now with the news of her husband it seems as though a multigenerational friendship that has lasted close to 90 years will soon end. I only met them all a few times and the last time was over 20 years ago I think, but its left me feeling really sad.
Its probably not helping that its 20 years today since Granny died.
I don't know...
Positive thought aimed across the atlantic if you would.

Went to walk-in centre. Told I wouldn't be seen as they close in 2 hours and there was a 4 hour wait. So, er, no help there then! The nhs down here is an utter joke!
