From Happy 30th Birthday to Transformers UK Issue 260 tmukhub.proboards.com/post/402906/threadOne thing that bugged me is that Sunstreaker has apparently never heard of Galvatron. I know he was off-line during 'Target: 2006', but he was up and around again in 'Totalled', and I find it hard to believe no-one ever mentioned Galvatron to him while he was active in 1988. Martin If only Sunstreaker had had yellow shoulders he would have known all about Galvatron. -Ralph He was lucky to have any colour on his shoulders at all when revived, with Yomtov on the job. Also, how do we know his shoulders weren't yellow in the black and white strips?

Also, how do we know his shoulders weren't yellow in the black and white strips? 'Cos of that poster. And the A-Z updates in the 1991 annual. And the Classic Heroes toys themselves, which the comic was promoting. Martin

Not disputing that they weren't red of course (as I'm completely in the red shoulders camp)

But it wasn't a mistake... just something you would prefer not to be like it is.

Yes, I think there is conflation between personal preference and the way something actually is.

It was a conscious choice.
However, it is emphatically the wrong choice and I agree one that should be fixed, having a supercar with a couple of panels an entirely different colour to the rest looks daft. And given the location of these panels, in a real world setting it would look like the car has been damaged or is a hotch potch. Now how does that reconcile with Sunstreaker's tech spec?

He's an alien, and Cybertronian aesthetic tastes may differ from human ones. But reconciliation with the character bio is a lost cause, when the unabridged TFU text says "Sunstreaker is faintly contemptuous of the other sports-car Autobots, particularly his fraternal twin Sideswipe, whose design, he says, is spoiled by the rear-mounted engine in his automobile mode." Not to mention all the weapons and abilities listed that demonstrate that the Sideswipe & Sunstreaker bios were written with each other's toys in mind. Sunstreaker's bio was written with the Sideswipe toy in mind, which is a uniform red in colour. Martin

And when I got the TFC reissue, the shiny red horns looked very wrong.

It was also a bad choice to make him entirely yellow and black, that's broken up in weird ways. Bumblebee and Hubcap make it work because because how the colors are laid out in robot. Sunstreaker doesn't have that consistency. (This is also another point in favor of Sunstreaker originally intended to be the sideswipe mold. This mold is bland in it's red colors, but not as badly as in yellow, while sideswipe mold pops in yellow/black)
The red is not only desperately needed, it also doesn't go far enough.

The whole Sideswipe/Sunstreaker swap-a-roo (which is something Big Phil is most definitely correct about) gives me a right ol' brain ache. Wrenched. Wrenched I am over it. I... I don't enjoy the thought of the characters as much now... THEY'RE THE WRONG WAY ROUND!
I'd been pondering Earthrise Sunstreaker to partner Siege Sideswipe (who is such a superb figure), but the aesthetics just don't go.
So I ask this question of you, Cyber-chums... (which I think I've probably asked before)...
Can you have Sideswipe without Sunstreaker?

Yeah. I got Sideswipe in 1985 but I didn't get Sunstreaker until about three years ago. Swipe was fine, didn't complain.

But but but it means A TOTAL RE-CALL of who Sideswipe is! FUNDAMENTALLY! I always found them both to be defined by the fact they were brothers!

Nay lad. They are individuals! Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Sideswipe is one of my dream team, the fact mine existed all those years without his brother just made him cooler.
Cos really, Sunstreaker is a bit of a knob.

Can you have Sideswipe without Sunstreaker? Most definitely. I got Sideswipe in 1986, Sunstreaker in 1990. On Cybertron, Sunstreaker was in 'State Games' and was a member of the Magnificent Six. Sideswipe wasn't. Sunstreaker was taken offline in TFUS #5, while Sideswipe went on to appear in stories like 'Prime Time', 'Dinobot Hunt' and 'To a Power Unknown'. Sunstreaker was in Earthforce and late TFUS stories. Sideswipe wasn't. Sideswipe was in G2. Sunstreaker wasn't. Sunstreaker was in the animated movie. Sideswipe wasn't. After TFUS #2, I don't know if they ever appeared in each other's presence in the comics! Martin

The original toys didn't even look good standing next to each other. Sunstreaker is a head taller than Sideswipe.

That is true... HEY, THAT IS TRUE! WHY WERE THEY EVEN 'BROTHERS' IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!I like them being brothers way better than the popular idea of prowl/bluestreak/smokescreen, starscream/thundercracker/skywarp, or magnus/prime being brothers simply because they share molds.
