THERE IS NO WEEK 00.

This is fascinating. My head is spinning. I am comforted to find there is an ISO standard for working this out. These days I have taken to assuming that there is an ISO standard for practically anything. It is just easier than doing the opposite and being surprised all the time. :-) There is no 00? This will surprise a generation of Gundam viewers... NOOOO! DOUBLE ZERO AND I WILL CUT THROUGH THE WICKEDNESS OF THIS WORLD! TO THE FUTURE! TRANS-AM RAISERRRRRRR! *ahem* Excuse me. I have been playing Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 yesterday evening, and my inner Setsuna F. Seie appears to have slipped its leash... (I don't even _like_ "Gundam:00" that much, there is just something so memorable about shouting, ranty, crazy-person Setsuna that he seems to stick in the grey cells like shrapnel) Karl

See Burns and Merrifield could have dug this information out years ago to settle this one once and for all, but no they kept waiting for me to get it wrong. Again.
Thank you Pinwig!

We will keep having this argument until you all get it right.
2016 Week 53 is also 2017 Week 1. *That's* how to label the thread. Problem solved.
Absolute nonsense not to assign days before a complete week to non-week status.

I think we should give the extra week a name instead. It's is not a number it is a free week!

They aren't non-week status, they're part of the previous one.
I think we're saying the same thing here. Sunday 1st is the last day in 2016 week 52, and then Monday 2nd is the first day of 2017 week 1. So a theoretical 2016 week 53 would be 2017 week 1, but it isn't needed.
The point about the ISO standard is that it means businesses and data systems all work the same way to avoid confusion. Because the Hub accepts the first day of the week is a Monday, it can't really work any other way; it's using that standard.

I will seek advice on this matter by entering a holodeck simulation of an NX-01 mission.

I wouldn't worry about it. You solved the problem last year, and everything said today supports what you said. You are endorsed by an ISO standard. Feel proud good Doctor!

We've done this. It depends how you define your calendar. The hub works on the ISO standard for week number definition, which is what businesses use to ensure they're all talking about the same week number through the year. Weeks start on Monday and the first week of the year contains January 4th.
There are other week numbering systems, the one you're using sounds like the American one, but the Hub has adopted the ISO standard. So it isn't right, wrong or otherwise; it's just the chosen system of many.

For payroll purposes and sickness and annual leave, my work has January 2nd as Week 1 too. The diaries are also used in work. It's also how the workplace outlook email and calender system is set up. Perhaps my workplace is 'wrong' too then? -Ralph

If they did not there would be absolute chaos! -Ralph I'm more on your side than Gavin's and Matthew's, but it's not that clear-cut. Working weeks / office weeks begin on Monday, but the church's week begins on Sunday and the Oxford dictionary does say "The cycle of seven successive days recognized in the Jewish calendar and from there adopted in the calendars of Christian, Muslim, and various other peoples; a single period of this cycle, beginning with the day traditionally fixed as the first day of the week (now usu. reckoned from and to midnight on Saturday–Sunday)." The first day of the week is therefore reckoned to be either a Sunday or a Monday, depending on the context. Church week 1 begins on Sunday the 1st, working week 1 begins on Monday the 2nd (though offices are closed as it's a bank holiday). Neither the church week nor the working week would begin on the 1st if it were neither a Sunday nor a Monday, though the first week in the sense of a period of seven days in a year is of course always the first seven days of the year. Cineworld's schedule week begins each Friday as films tend to be released on a Friday. The Hub is neither business nor religion, and so may do as it wishes. The Transformers comic came out on a Saturday... Martin

Post by The Doctor on Dec 28, 2016 15:46:17 GMT
There can be no week zero according to ISO, as explained upthread.
Hub weeks always start on a Monday so starting one on a Monday is nonsense.
The year starts on the 1st. The first week starts on the 2nd. Deal with it.
