He, and BW II, are TWENTY years old next year
TWENTY!
Next year is also the 20th anniversary of BW in the UK.
That's the toy-fu mag theme for next year sorted for you Matt ;-)

That's the toy-fu mag theme for next year sorted for you Matt ;-) That's a good idea Phil. I was thinking of either the 30th anniversary of Masterforce, or the 20th anniversary of the Beast Wars 2 sausage Hadn't realised BW in the UK itself was 20 years. Thought it was in earlier than that!

Started US in late 96.
Hit Europe, but not the UK, in 97.
Finally came out in the UK during 98.
The story of that tale is in itself worth telling for the confusion it sewed and the lack of availability of certain toys in the UK

The first wave was available in full force June 96. That was the smooth bubble packaging. I imagine the rock bubbles were an earlier shipment (probably May or before) as there were very few of them on the shelves by then.

You're right I think. I'll get the Tomarts out and see if there's a better date in there.
I know everytime it gets discussed it turns out to be earlier than I think!
Annoyingly the TMUK email archives don't go quite far enough back but they back up my memory of Transmetals showing at end of 98 and us thinking they were early. They also have mention of the 96 grey imports :-)

I'll have a look through mine if I can find them.
I know informer (or G2) had the photo from toyfair? in it so I knew exactly what would be out months ahead of my holiday, I assume it'll also have said when they first were spotted.

a possible name springs to mind: BIOCOMBAT! No Phil it would need to refer to 20 years of Beast Wars 2 sausage. We'll have a vote on what the next theme should be in uh, September or whenever. If we even do one! Depends on the reception to this years! But we could do: Pretenders (generally) Masterforce Beast Wars UK anniversary that exists only in Phil's head ( ) Beast Wars 2 sausage What else?

I think Blue needs a break before thinking about a third zine, but I reckon BWII would be the most interesting to do because it's something that isn't known about widely, has an array of interesting characters and because of the Karyudo subs is something we've all now got access to.
Aside from that, probably thirty years of Masterforce because that could incorporate Pretenders and seems to be the most loved of the Japanese shows.
Or Battle Beasts. Go, you know you want to.

11th annivarsary live action movie book. If it makes you feel better we could do First Annivarsary The Last Knight.

11th annivarsary live action movie book. What we would have to do with this is all draw or write sequences that we think are 'cool' but not tell eachother what we've done. When Blueshift receives all contributions, he sticks a blindfold on and then puts them all together randomly to make one cohesive graphic novel story.

And do you think there are folk out there who would pay for that??

An anthology of short stories that each have a different star/cast and that never appeared in the show.

I'd be up for doing something like that anyway. The word count for Sunbow Sundays is now over 150k - I need to do a bit of fiction.

Oh my god that's amazing Make it like one of the japanese clips shows. To do it right, we'd need to tell Matt what is being done first, so we don't clash but that could work and perhaps allow a mash of Masterforce and Beast Wars to comfortably work together. Andy

Andy Let's discuss it at the con! I'd prefer to keep any fanzine focussed on one thing, and also not dissuade any contributions from people who can't draw, etc. But it's a nice idea! There could be a seperate thing about the movies (which I think was what Matt was specifically alluding to, as clearly Masterforce was the pinnacle of storytelling!)
