As well as the well know Prowl thing, I'm also obsessed with STRIKE PLANES!!!!! (Or Seekers to my American friends) I love the Cone-heads too, but I'm concentrating on the original 3, Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp. Something so iconic about all three of them together. It's like they reach back in time to that weird little boy who's just discovered Transformers and yanked part of him forward to the wierd chap I am today. But it's not just the styling and G1ick fan-bean goodness- they're such great personalities. We all know 'bout Starscream, a great character. Skywarp's ace, a destruction crazed crazybot, who appears to be loyal to Megatron pretty much. And then Thundercracker, not a nice chap in his own right, but unsure of the Decepticon cause. Fanscinating characters, who together form a wonderfull little group of conflicting ideals and desires! And who together form a very dangerous group of warriors. My obsession is to have collections of all three of them in various different lines. So far ... Armada (thanks to Phil and Nick) is complete. Not the best Seeker molds ever, but they're such large, impossing figs I can't help but like them. Soon Robot Masters will be complete when a Starscream arrives to me and joins TC and SW supplied by a certain Dark Stranger. G1: although I only have my vintage Starscream, the upcomming encores of the other two will go down very nicely. I have ambissions to attempt a KitBash for a Titanium Skywarp (you know how totally ghey I am for Titaniums!). But I have neither the fig, not the skill! I'll give it a crack one day. Classics, well don't get me started on BotCon Seekers. I'll wait a bit, and tryn find a Thundercracker on Ebay. Masterpiece. Saving up for Skywarp (rather saving up the courage to ask Mrs Shockprowl if I can buy one!). Only leaves a MP Thundercracker. Will they do one? I'm dreading this Deep Space Movie Starscream will look like Skywarp. 'Cos then I may have to look at them also! Even though I've avoided collecting too much movie stuff. World's Smallest are expensive and mucho hard to find and I don't think they've done all 3 have they? So there you have it. A peek into the mind of Shockprowl.

I too love the seekers. I have the Encore Starscream and am most definitely getting the Encore Thundercracker and Skywarp. Also got MP Starscream...and Skywarp muaahah I bought MP Skywarp immediately when he came out - and a good thing too - he's 1/3 more expensive at retail nowadays Do hope they do Thundercracker in the MP line. Thundercracker was always my favorite of the three; next being Starscream - Skywarp being last (I tend not to get excited about the destructive personalities - although Skywarp's redeeming feature is that he apparently uses his teleportation skill to play pranks on the other Cons - very nice that! ) Would really really love Encore Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet. Really. In fact - I officially announce that Takara Encore reissue Thrust will be next in line after Metroplex. You heard it here first. (Yes - I have a secret power whereby my "official" announcements become truth) dyrl

Yes Skywarp MP is much meatballs. Don't fancy trading yours for Armada Jetfire AND Optimus do you Dyrl? Go On!
Well my vintage Thrust and Ramjet are in reasonabily ok nick, so I'm after Dirge in encore next! In a perfect world I'd have collections of all six, but that's just crazy talk. I actually think Dirge is one of the most over looked/ potentially brilliant characters going. Dying for him to make his IDW debut.
Rumours you say Philip? Rumours? I will keep my eyes/ears and other apparatuseses pealed.

(oh, CJ, don't say 'Seekers', they go nuts on here if you say it! They prefer Strike Jets, or something like that. I said See ker once. Whole worlda hurt, oh mama, I couldn't sit down for a week! I know you've said it once, but so far I think you've got away with it. What you don't want is someone drawing attention to it...) Did someone say the S-word? (It's "Strike Plane" Ian.)

"Seeker" seems so much easier to say and type than "Strike Jet/Plane," though.
Either way, it's not an official canon subgroup (As say the Dinobots, Headmasters, or Seacons), so both terms are slightly annoying. They were the decepticon equivelents of the standard autobot cars (Bumblebee, Prowl, Jazz, Sideswipe, Ironhide), and no one treated the autobots as anything more than autobots. So to me, they're just decepticons jets. I always refer to them as Seekers out of simplicity, and personally feel that term works better for the Sweeps (Which always seemed silly. Scourge and the Sweeps. Sounds like a 50's motown quartette)
This isn't a question to be sarcastic, dismissive, or snide. It's a serious, genuine and earnest question. What's the difference, Seeker vs Strike Jet?

Strike Plane is on the early catalogues IIRC.

Rodimus Prime is listed in the catalogues officially as "Autobot Hero," but no one calls him that. And no one minds him being referred to as autobot leader instead, either. Strike Plane vs Striker seems like a peculiar nitpick to jump on someone about to me, honestly. Just sayin'. And with that, I've had my say. (Also, not accusing anyone of jumping on me about it. Just going off what's been stated) I think the real reason we don't like it is because the term is a creation by fans with no basis in any material at all. If you're going to use a group name for the Decepticon Planes use something that does. Yes we mainly do the S-word thing in jest here (I note 'seeker' has been reinstated into the swear filter today with the usual hilarious consequences) and make a special point of slapping Shockprowl for doing it, but there's just no justification for where the term 'seeker' comes from. I'd link to the TFWiki article but TFWiki is misbehaving tonight. There was a spate a few years ago for the 1986/7/8 combining Transformers to be referred to as Gestalts or something similar? As far as I can see someone saw the word and thought "that looks cool!" No. They're Special Teams/Scramble City!

The 'Seeker' thing makes as much sense to me as calling the Autobot cars 'The Giraffes' as the word 'Seeker' was never used in any toy bio, cartoon episode, comic story or general merchandise. It's complete nonsense.
And the Decepticon planes aren't bloody seeking anything anyway!

Yeah? Well... well... you're all poopie-heads!
I jest, I jest. ;P
But seriously, Generation One/G1 is a fan created term, that was used for years before hasbro adopted it and made it official. "Seeker" is pretty much the same. Been used by fans so long that it's become official, and has been used by hasbro, the movie, games, and comics. From the wiki:
Though, as I already stated, both are somewhat irksome since the autobot cars aren't classified as a group, and neither were the decepticon jets. Existing in fiction simply as the decepticons. (Like I said elsewhere, "Seeker" is better applied to the sweeps, which genuinely was a silly name. "Scourge the Huntsman, and his 'Seekers'," has a cool ring to it)
But, I'm up for the game! I was just trying to wrap my head around the base issue, is all.

Y But seriously, Generation One/G1 is a fan created term, that was used for years before hasbro adopted it and made it official. "Seeker" is pretty much the same. Been used by fans so long that it's become official, and has been used by hasbro, the movie, games, and comics. Yep, and I don't use that one much either, except when referring to the Dreamwave Comics series which actually used that in the title - I prefer to refer to "the Marvel Comic", "the Sunbow cartoon" (or whatever) rather than calling them "G1" as if they were somehow the same thing as they don't seem to have enough in common to me to be lumped together. I'm in the camp that doesn't use "Seekers" for the 84 and 85 Decepticon Jets because "Seeker" implies someone who is looking for something, and they aren't. Movie Jetfire was a Seeker though, seeing as he was looking for a religious/political artefact/cola cube/rubix cube. :-) "Sweeps" makes sense to me though, because I figure that they carry out sweeps, acting as beaters to flush out targets for Scourge, the Huntsman. That said, I don't really mind what term anyone else uses - they could all be called Bob to me, as long as everybody knows what everyone is talking about. Karl

I've always just used "Decepticon jets."
Strike Plane sounds classier than Seeker, and I've started to adopt that since joining here, it must be said.

Strike Plane has been a highly amusing running joke on here for ages! I love it!
In all seriousnessnessness, I've come to regard 'Seeker' as the poorer term these days, preferring 'Strike Plane'. As Doc' says, they're not seeking anything, they're striking at things! I began my Transformers foruming on the American Tformers site, before I discovered The Hub, and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) Strike Plane is more widely used in America than the UK. I don't think I ever thought of them as Strike Planes until I started foruming on Tformers.
So, like Kirei, I've been educated by the Mighty Hub! Strike Plane does sound classier!

Well, like I said earlier or elsewhere, like kirei, I personally prefer to call them Decepticon Jets. I refer to them in forum settings or dealing with other fans as "Seekers," out of simplicity. It's easier to say than Decepticon Jets, and everyone automatically know the group I'm talking about.
I just put the "Team 'Seeker'" tag under my avatar to be playful.

Off topic slightly, okay a lot but this doesnt deserve its own thread.
What sounds better:
Psychedelic Sweeps
or
Neon Sweeps

If by "Neon," you mean G2, then most definately Neon. If not, then I have no preference.

Yeah G2 sweeps, I'm doing an animation and the line is either
"And my Psychedelic Sweeps"
or
"And my Neon Sweeps"
The first sounds really nice but it seems a shame to miss the chance to use neon in the context.

Definitely psychedelic. It has a nicer rhythm.

Hmm, I think it's about funk factor, and both have a great deal of funk factor. Psychedelic is more 'Beetles', Neon is more 'Punk-Rock'. That doesn't help at all, does it.

Post by Bogatan on Mar 19, 2012 1:13:06 GMT
Actually it does.
The Sweeps are definitely more beatles hippy than Sex Pistols.
At least these ones are. Its the nicer rhythm too.
Now I need to do a 60s style psychedelic sweeps poster. Do I have the time? Maybe. 15 hours and counting.

'Seeker' has been used in the fiction in description of the Decepticon jets. The War Within #1. And a crap ton since then too.
Just saying, because someone mentioned it had no basis in official fiction.

Yes, but that was long after fans started using it to describe the jets.

This is true, but makes it no less canon now. If Simon Furman decides he likes a fan-phrase enough to make it official, then I'm not gonna argue. Like he did with Gestalt. UNTIL such things are official, however, I'll hate them with a passion.

Ah, but "Strike Plane" has always been official: it was on Hasbro's own catalogues.
Meanwhile, I will use "Generation One" for products that actually feature those words but refuse to retroactively apply it as a blanket term, just like I refuse to call "Star Wars" "A New Hope". Before anyone points it out, I know that there's a degree of hypocrisy as my website has a "Generation 1" section, but what else am I supposed to call them?
