So is it true about the IDW all comics ending in the universe? I guess they would do a reboot universe from scratch.

I have seen several people mentioning it today but have seen nobody linking to anything that indicates where they've come from.

Going back to the Unicron thread where I took Pete's initial post from we have this slightly spoilerific link in it is the textIs that it? There's also some Tweets from James Roberts about Lost Light that make me think the wrap up for that is soon.

I think the TFU.info twitter account mentioned that it had been said to them by someone official, too.
Seems an odd thing to do after pushing the shared universe thing so hard.

The movie reboot already seems to be walked back a bit, thougjt it could just be to avoid harming bumblebee. But if thats not certain ill wait for more information.
Could be a soft reboot to replace the story arcs of the last 6 years or so.

TFU.INFO @tfu_INFOFeb 17 Also, got a soft confirmation that IDW will be rebooting in some fashion at year’s end after Unicron. But the relationship between Hasbro and IDE will continue. #HasbroToyFair #NYTF

There's a certain appeal in restarting the shared universe with a clean slate - there's been significant character changes and numerous retcons during the past few years that makes it difficult to follow for a new readership. Simon Furman's mini-series feels like a much simpler time. I can imagine Hasbro wanting to see a return to the status quo in order to promote the War for Cybertron trilogy. I can't say I'm keen in seeing the events of the past 13 years wiped away though.

I can't say I'm keen in seeing the events of the past 13 years wiped away though. It isn't being wiped away though. The stories will still exist, even if the story-cycle that they are a part of ends. No-ne is going to come into your house and take away your trade paperbacks or issues. The digital editions will likely remain available from Comixology. A story doesn't get wiped away simply because it ends - IDW Optimus Prime will still exist, in the same way that the Arthur of Thomas Mallory , or the Robin Hood of popular culture still exists, even though the latter die at the end of their stories. In the same way that the Marvel or Sunbow story-cycles ended, but still exist fo be enjoyed by those that like them. Or thar Beast Machines ends the Beast Wars story cycle, but that was not erased. These stories will still exist and you will be able to enjoy them. It is simply that it may be time for a new story-cycle to begin. Not the first time that it has happened in Transformers, and it won't be the last. This is in the nature of things - and it is part of what keeps the franchise alive. Karl.

The current IDW-verse feels very bloated and the mini-reboots in it really affect its consistency.
I have to admit that I am intrigued by the thougt of a completely new rebooted universe- especially if it gives Roberts and Furman et al their own little kingdom do what they want.

I bought a few IDW comics when they started. My abiding memory was the Earth based stories had very little Transformers in it. I read a Furman written series which was good but apart from that read nothing till LSOTR which I bought because I knew the people involved and it had good word of mouth here. They then got it right with MTMTE & RID. RID drifted towards Dark Cybertron and never really recovered. The "part of a larger Hasbroverse" has hurt things more recently. I suspect most Trnsformers fans just want to read about Transformers and not anything else.

I know I do. Mostly because I'm no fan of GI Joe, I've never really been into military stuff, and nothing else would seem to work with TF's. Marvel and DC have interconnected universes built in from the ground up, Hasbro toy properties... don't.
I really hope this reboot, if such it proves to be, isn't a way of restarting all the Hasbro properties into one continuity from the beginning.

For me the Earth based stories were the worst anyway. The Cybertron based stories and the Lost Light ones were better. Given that, a shared universe could work as long as you kept Transformers away from Earth for the most part.

Looking at the sales numbers for all of the current IDW books, a reboot would appear inevitable as some of the recent issues sold circa 4500 copies. Although I don't think they have done themselves any favours by flooding the market with all kinds of multiple books & crossovers, perhaps the nostalgia boom of the noughties is finally over as the majority of people who would have been of the disposable income/around at the height of TFs popularity age at this time, now have other responsibilities.

I would like the current universe to end and for a fresh start, but not be beholden to any previous iteration of the Transformers.
Cherry pick ideas/themes and cast and do something new.

FWIW - I wish the Furmanverse had been allowed to continue longer. The setting of a Cold War for the Transformers was one that had lots of scope to play around with.
Taken before it's time.

james Roberts posted the other night on twitter "news is coming soon" when questioned further he said don't exactly know the timeframe.
might not be linked but would suggest it is?
Nick Roche also kinda intimated on his wreckers announcement it was nice to be allowed to wrap the fates of the characters up
both would suggest reboot

I think the reboot could land Jan 19 with Bumblebee being the lead character replacing Ratchet from when IDW started. So we going to call this IDW2? But Prowl does need a reset from where he's been going in IDW.

Marvel and DC have interconnected universes built in from the ground up, Hasbro toy properties... don't. I really hope this reboot, if such it proves to be, isn't a way of restarting all the Hasbro properties into one continuity from the beginning. That's what this sounds like, to me. Shoehorning everything into the IDW TFverse has been a disaster to the whole thing. Transformers are one of those things that changes everything. If you introduce giant alien war machines that can mimic anything onto your planet, the fundamental nature of your reality changes. And thanks to All Hail Megatron, the Transformers had a monumental effect on earth. Just cramming all these things in after the fact doesn't work. Especially when some of them are basically the same concept (Joe and MASK. Secret good guys using crazy vehicles to combat terrorists also using crazy vehicles) Personally, I think GI Joe and Transformers both deserve their own realities. Some things may work within (Mask is a good match for a post TF works. Humans using cybertronian tech to make their vehicles transform? I don't even care about mask and I think that's a solid combo) But personally, I only care about stories about what the transformers are doing, and stories about what the transformer related humans are doing. I don't care about how Snake Eyes gets along with Bumblebee, or powerstruggles between megatron and despero, or whoever controls cobra that day. I don't care about the Micronauts, Rom, or whatever Matt Trakker does. Though if we are getting a reboot, I hope we get Beast Wars the hell out of G1 and back into their own timeframe. I would like to have a solid timeline that's written from the start to progress from G1 to Beast Era. We've never had that before.

I agree with most of that. They could still share a universe though if you kept Transformers away from Earth.
All depends if you want aliens of any sort in the MASK and GI Joe universes.

In my experience almost every attempt in genre fiction to retell a timeline in a "tidier" way ends up as an exercise in tedium and people forgetting that often it's the inconsistencies, and the energy which comes with making something up as you go, which really enrich ongoing stories. I don't need to see stories A, B and C told again but "neater", that would be a major jumping off point for me, unless it involved a truly stellar creative team.
Whatever they do one thing I'd be up for would be to go from female Transformers as some kind of curiosity to a 50/50 split; reassign genders if we want to reuse classic characters and names (starting with Ratchet!).
But most of all I want to be surprised, in a good way; one of the things I enjoyed about finally getting into Masterforce last year was just how different it was to what we usually get. Let's have something like that.
