I think it's just one of those things that makes for a fun toy gimmick rather than something to think too hard about it. I wish I could ignore things that bother me with stories, etc. by taking that attitude but I've never been able to, even as a kid. (See recent Time Wars logic discussion for another example of this.) Especially when Uncle Bob wrote Punch/Counterpunch such a cracker of a TFU entry. Nevertheless, even though the logic of the character's official backstory gives me a headache, I am going to give Punch/Counterpunch my vote for sheer novelty value. Martin

And thus balance is restored to the universe... :-) I'll admit I might have voted the other way had it been 6-5 to Punch. There's something satisfying about making the score go level again. Re: the Punch/Counterpunch gimmick. I have far less of an issue with Doubledealer because he's loyal to no-one and plays both sides for suckers, so it makes more sense to me for him to be able to switch identities. Martin

And I love Sixshot's function- Solo Transformer Assault Group, S.T.A.G! Marvelously bonkers. A solo group? Only SIXSHOT could pull that off! For some reason I like Overlord's function - Self Contained Nomadic Assault Machine - even more, despite the fact that SCNAM isn't a word. Martin

Punch/Counter Punch - genuinely loved the idea of him. Sixshot I was never fussed about, well until 1989 when I saw The Rebirth.

I have to say that I voted for Punch and expected everyone else to vote for Sixshot - and then ask wtf voted for the smaller less impressive toy. So I'm surprised that so many have chosen him over Sixshot who I thought was loved by everyone but me.
I've always found the six changer to be overrated but the real reason for me not voting for him is that when I got the toy, something unpleasant happened - and he always reminds me of that.
Which is a discussion for elsewhere - there are quite a few TF toys that remind me of certain times/feelings good and bad from points in my life in the same way a song or piece of music would. Is this the case with anyone else?

I know what you mean, Hufferlover, but no, Transformers/toys in general don't do that for me. I just get nostalgia. Other things do though, like music.

I don't really have specific transformer related memories. Not G1 era. I wish I did. I'd love to be able to remember when and where I got them all. I'll have to think about this.

I'm sure I can pretty much remember where a lot of mine came from - and definitely what I had for Christmas each year since 1984 - but then I can remember what I got before that - from a Perfection game, Speaking K-9 (that I still have) to Star Wars and Castle Greyskull.

I have the Talking K-9 too! Does your still work? Mine doesn't - he had a little record type disc that has long gone (and I suspect the electronics have long died). But he still rolls on his little wheels!

He did last time I tried him. But that would have been... been... umm. A long time ago. I've got a red talking Dalek too but I'm pretty sure that doesn't work.

I think Sixshot is one of those figures that everyone loves until they get hold of him, and then he's a bit 'eh'. He's too big, and despite having six modes, there's not a whole lot of clever stuff going on, just repositioning his arms and legs a bit each time. It ends up a bit "oh right, okay", which is exactly the same reaction to the Titans Return figure.

I have the Talking K-9 too! Does he talk via electronics or do you imagine him talking in your head, telling you to commit crimes and make graphs with pictures of pies?

!!!
This toy came out in the seventies, Blue. It doesn't talk via electronics. It legitimately has a tiny record inside it, complete with turntable and needle. No, it really does.
edit: actually, to be fair, it is battery powered. Just not digital
And the only voice in my head telling me to make graphs of pies is Ralph's.

I know Blue likes tinkering. I am sure he will find this instructional video very informative.
*looks at watch* How long's it going to take Phil to move this one then...

I can still remember a "something/something..firing now' in my head.
But no speech influencing me to commit crimes.
That all comes from the clown doll on a swing hanging from the ceiling...

I come back to you now, at the breaking of the tie...
And it really has to be Sixshot, again based on my criteria of stuff from the catalogues only, because six modes just looks more exciting than the Punch/Counterpunch's gimmick; even if the latter does make for better storytelling, as toys go changing to six modes is just a much better selling point.

24 Hours to go, then we'll crack open the Japanese madness. Last chance to find me a nice large version of the Japanese 1987 Headmaster catalogue!

I think Sixshot should score points for running his own ninja consultancy. I mean, that kind of business acumen is rare among transformers.
