ABOMINUS.
I think the more interesting individual robots make for a more interesting combined robot. Computron is more uniform it's true, but in this case it just makes him look bland. Abominus is vibrant!
Also Abominus I find more interesting than Computron. Abominus is a powerful but uncontrollable weapon, used sparingly, but with terrible consequences for enemies (and possibly comrades!). Computron stands around thinking too much?
I know nothing of Raiden. Looks interesting, but I was surprised how small these guys are. G1 Construction small.
Abominus is also my joint favourite combiner (with Devastator). It never ceases to amaze me how a hardened '84/'85er like me can so enjoy a team of nightmare monsters. I think I just found them utterly bonkers, and Hun-Garr, Cutthroat and Blot were some of the last Transformers I ever bought as a child. So there's clearly a nostalgia thing going on here.

I was expecting Artfire & Stepper this week too (or should that be Stepper & Artfire?)
I'll go with Computron as I like his bulkiness and uniformed colours. He has a nice robot look to him.
Abominus (the toy) has never really appealed to me - he has short arms, a large body and long skinny legs and looks it like he is wearing pink slippers.
Raiden looks a bit outdated even in 1997!

I was expecting Artfire & Stepper this week too As Martin says above, Stepper and Artfire aren't on this catalogue and they led me a merry little dance trying to find one they were on! They are, and we'll get there shortly. I have been unable to find the combined Dino Tapes, Cybertron Master Warriors or the recolour Godmaster engines on any catalogue. They'll be done, or have been, in the extras poll. (or should that be Stepper & Artfire?) Shhh. Burns will get cross. And he's going to get VERY cross soon.

Computron. Love it.
Back in the early 2000s, when Pirranicon/King Poseidon cropped up in BWII as God Neptune and Bruticus was in Car Robots as Baldigus, Computron was rumoured to be getting a recolour as a Vehicon Combiner in Beast Machines. That would have worked so so well it's a shame it didn't happen :-(

POTENTIAL ILLEGAL POLL!
Where these combiners sold as a set in Japan at this time?

We don't need the combiners to be sold as a set, as we've already established. Similarly we don't need toys to be sold individually to vote on them. That boat has long sailed without you making a fuss so hush. And yes they were. tfwiki.net/wiki/Japanese_ID_number_list

Hmmm. Just going by how they look on the catalogue, although Abominus stands out the most he's a bit of a mess. Computron is more coherent, but something about him doesn't leap out. So it'll have to be Computron.
Oh, how much I'd probably regret it when I had the toy in hand though...

Five nightmare creatures who combine to form a giant destroying machine with no soul or mind who's just as dangerous to his fellow Deceptions as he is enemy Autobots! Sounds like the GodMod council to me. Although there's only four of them. So they're probably missing an arm. Or a leg. ... Now I'm thinking. Andy would be the body, obviously. I feel Martin should be a leg as he tends to prop us up with fiction and common sense. Phil would have to be the other leg because he is also a pillar on which the hub stands. Yes. Doc's an arm. Flapping around aimlessly.

And the rest of us could take turns being the other arm!
....and Blue' could be the chest-piece...

Yes! A Blue peacock feather fan chest plate. Perfect.
We've just designed a Hub combiner.

The Targetmaster should be Shockprowl. No accuracy but sprays a wide field of fire everywhere.

It's a tricky poll. I think Computron is the best giant robot, as a toy (and I think combiners should always be colour-co-ordinated, like the Constructicons, Predacons, Technobots and Seacons), but I can't ignore the fact that they separate and transform into teams, and the Terrorcons are more fun as a team of five individuals than the Technobots. Sticking with the Technobots for now.
If the Trainbots were colour-co-ordinated and actually transformed into a train (rather than six front ends of trains) then I would vote for Raiden. As it is, he's in third place.
