Right, I'm going to go with Chainclaw because I like his name better and I now remember I used him a lot in my little comic strips I used to draw for my own amusement back in the day. But mainly because his shell reminds me of moulded chocolate.

oooh! would it be possible to reverse engineer moulds from pretender shell halves which would be safe to use for chocolate? you could then put smaller chocolates inside them and seal them up and have pretender easter eggs!

I feel sorry for Chainclaw getting so few votes - he's the first TF bear to date, but we've already had lots of cats.
Carnivac and Snarler are rubbish names, when we already have a Dinobot called Snarl, and 'Carnivac' reminds me more of the word 'Carnival' than 'Carnivore'.
If Carnivac goes into space, does that make him the Cosmic Carnivac?

Kinder should do Transformers Pretenders Kinder Surprise! Chocolate eggs which hide the (toy) robot inside! Transforms from robot disguise to tasty treat and- And that's it. You don't want to attempt to turn it back again. Really. Don't.

I'm sure I've heard/seen these referred to as 'Double Targetmasters' in some official capacity. Yes! That's what Prowl calls them in 'Starting Over' (TFUK #261). Can't get more official than Prowl! Martin

Martin So, what sub group names were never used in the actual fiction/comics? For instance, was the term 'Action Master' ever actually used? Did Bludgeon ever refer to himself team as a 'Pretender Figure'? Were Grimlock & co. known as the Classic Pretenders? In Earthforce, did Jazz, Prowl and Ironhide mock Skids for merely being an old 'Autobot Car' rather than a new 'Classic Hero'? I always thought the term 'Transmetals 2' always sounded clumsy in Beast Wars.

Hmmm. Subnames being used in fiction was always hit and miss!

Snarler has strength 7, Carnivac 6. They both have intelligence 5. Carnivac has speed 7, Snarler 3. Snarler has endurance 10, Carnivac 9. Carnivac has rank 4 (presumably after losing his team in the Time Wars), Snarler rank 3 (presumably before his promotion to oversee the hunting down of traitors). Snarler has courage and firepower 8, Carnivac has both 7. Carnivac has skill 8, Snarler 7. Martin

Wow, their Techspecs bare little resemblance to their compelling comic appearances, particularly Carnavac, who I thought was awesome at the time. But Martin's brilliant rundown there really helps sort it all out? Is that your work, Martin?
Snarler's toy looks fairly ok. But I'm going to have to go with Carnavac. Toy looks cool, and his comic characterisation is fantastic.

Snarler! Yes, Carnicac is much more famous thanks to Simon Furman and has a very nice shell but just look at Snarler! As someone said before, it is such an evil looking creature - a boar straight from hell!
I also love the fact that the inner robot has a drill for a snout - genius! surely that pun more than makes up for the lack of one in his name?
I hated the idea of Pretender Beasts when they first came out (way too He Man) but as soon as I spotted Snarler, I really loved the detail, colours and demonic-ness of his shell.

Has to be Carnivac. And not because of the comic - just because the toy looks more exciting than the Battle Pig.
