Ooooooooooh this is a difficult one. Metalhawk's certainly the nicest looking Pretender on that page, but as with any catalogue my eye is always drawn to the Optimus Prime-a-like. Even though we know he's an awful toy, I'd be lusting over that Prime-extension so bad! But THEN we get to Browning, and it's a Megatron-a-like! Argh! Too much awesomeness here! I'd wait till those who have handled Metalhawk turn up. Or do a search and discover the terrible truth.

Metalhawk for me this week. Yes he is a bit rubbish (especially as us fans all assumed he was a metal robot that turned into a realistic jet - we were right on the metal part at least). Godbomber feels more like an accessory and has a somewhat blasphemous name. Browning is a lovely toy, but an old one, so Metalhawk wins simply for being THE Japanese exclusive toy for Me.

Browning. Metalhawk is pish in hand. Godbomber is rubbish on his own.

Yep. Browning. In my universe he'd be Megatron's evil brother (or eviler brother), come to wrest control of the Decepticons from him. They'd have jumping about gun battles.

Metalhawk is pish. You want to say he's nice, he looks fun. BUT ..... No, in hand he's not. The only thing he has going for him is his Japanese Pretender exclusive rarity.
Browning looks fun, the last Microchange toy (Megatron, Soundwave, 1984 Tapes & Mini Autobots, Blaster & Perceptor, Reflector) imported into Transformers. However he is tinsy tiny and I believe a little delicate?
Godbomber was the first overseas toy I acquired in 1992. He powers up one of my favourite toys, Powermaster Optimus Prime. I have had ours of fun with him and he donate the catalogue which I took the scans from which we are using now.
GODBOMBER wins.

All I can say is that I transformed Nick's a few times without issues or him screaming. It's a much better toy than the similar Megatron. -Ralph

I agree. Browning works much better as a toy than Megatron, but is just smaller. Also has no massive cock trigger.
Why isn't Browning BROWN like in the cartoon? Or silver in the cartoon like the toy?

Hmm I'll have to check next time I come across it.
As for Metalhawk. Yeeeeeah. He's not amazing, although now that I have the shell to go with the robot hes growing on me. The inner robot is in fairness better than most of the other robots from the standard pretenders. Jet mode is silly, but theres no question of what its supposed to be which again is an improvement on the others. Its also got a lot more range of colour going on which I find an improvement too.
The shell is also probably the best of the Autobot ones for me. Even if it doesnt have a lion head on its chest.

Having looked at the catalogue image just now, which has confirmed my views.
The Hasbro shells looks like a bunch of middle age and slightly over weight men. Metalhawk looks young and athletic and is dressed like a knight instead of a miner or some dude who works in the sewers clearing blockages. Its just better.
Robot mode. Okays its really not great and in hand its worse. In hand its actually probably worse than the regular pretenders because it feels fragile. And yet that fragileness comes from the fact that it much more closely resembles the majority of Transformers up until that point. Drop Metalhawk in to a 1984-85 line up and he doesnt look instantly out of place.
Meatalhawks two big problems. 2. Jet mode. Wow! The artistic license on the boxart just takes the piss. but in at number 1. The face. Do not look at the face! WTF Takara? How did that happen?

Anyway Im voting Browning.
Though its actually quite a hard choice. All are essentially pretty cool especially on paper, but in hand I think as a kid Metalhawk and Godbomber would have been a (little) bit of a let down. And as an grown up Browning comes acros as the better toy.
I almost completely skipped any pretender that didnt have a vaguely realistic alt mode. Vroom was as far from an alt mode that served as a disguise as I wanted to get. Apparently I didnt accept that the pretender shells now served as the "in Disguise" part of the toy. As such I dont know if Metalhawk would have been an instant must buy, even if it was at least trying in the diguise area. And in hand. The face.
Godbomber. I dont know what I would have made of Godbomber as a kid. Its part forming might have been disappointing in hand. But purely from the catalogue image it looks amazing. I do kind of feel getting the reissue in 2002 was the right time to get it and fully appriciate it.
Browning. Browning is awesome. A far better toy than Megatron, though its easy to understand why he wasnt used as Megatron. Sadly a bit small and without all the accessories the Megatron had available he just didnt match up with Prime very well. Why he (or the revolver?) never made it to the west still baffles me.
It must have been nice back in 1988 suddenly discovering a brand new original style G1 mould on the shelves.
Browning is the least likely to disappoint of the three. Even allowing for broken shoulder pieces, Ive had mine since 95 or 96 and not noticed it and it in no way detracts from the mould being a lot more fun to play with, more solid and for me just better than Megatron and a fair few of the microchange moulds.
Infact I got mine a few years before getting a Megatron, as a result I was pretty disappointed in Megatron.

but in at number 1. The face. Do not look at the face! WTF Takara? How did that happen? He does look like some playmobile type preschool toy doesn't he? (I assume we're talking about the shells human face - although the robot face is no better actually).

Is Browning called Browning 'cos he's so terrifying he makes his victims shit themselves? No, it's because he transforms into a Browning M1910 pistol. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_Model_1910It's like calling Megatron 'Walther'. Metalhawk and Godbomber are awesome in the cartoon, and Browning is rubbish in the cartoon, but I'm voting Browning as it's a toy poll and the other two are not good toys. And Browning has a realistic Earth disguise... and no silly size-changing magic! Martin

Godbomber feels more like an accessory and has a somewhat blasphemous name. In the Marvel Comics-based Grand Moff Martinverse, Godmasters are Powermasters where the binary-bonded partner is an Asgardian or Olympian. (And of course Titanmasters are Headmasters where the binary-bonded partners are Titans like Thanos.) For what they're worth (if anything), the GMM fan profiles of God Ginrai, Browning and Metalhawk are here: tmukhub.proboards.com/post/370196tmukhub.proboards.com/post/370249Martin
