Absolutely Flattop! Always been one of my favourite toys. Love the way the jet becomes a robot that has a jet.
I remember being at school and my Mum was getting this for me so I was looking forward to getting home.

I'm torn as to how to vote. Flattop is more distinctive, but the aircraft carrier is too small for Micromaster jets. Martin

Flatop just opens up until a hollow shell. Roughstuff has two distinctive modes.

If Roughstuff _was_ Onsalught, then his motto would be "The mind is the greatest weapon," going head to head with Flattop's "Terror is the ultimate weapon." Who is right??? More seriously, Simon Furman introduced an Autobot called Flattop in the UK comic in 1989 - tfwiki.net/wiki/Flattop_(Autobot) - when Decepticon Flattop was in the shops. What was he thinking? Did he intend Flattop to come back from the dead as a Decepticon Micromaster or what? Martin

Hmmm. Ignoring the transport, Flattop is clearly the best Micromaster. He turns into an F4 Phantom jet. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_F-4_Phantom_IIRoughstuff just sits down, points his toes and bows his head, and pretends unconvincingly to be some sort of truck cab. But Flattop the jet looks stupidly out of scale on that aircraft carrier. Hmmm. Martin

Scale doesn't matter! Flattop just has a small Aircraft Carrier designed for one or two jets. And seeing as the real life size of his actual jet mode is questionable in fiction he may as well be having fun on all levels.
Imagine him telling the Air strike Patrol to land on his carrier and then have them all play the final stage of musical chairs once they realise that (close up) there is only room for two.

Big Phil is up to his shit naming antics again. Both names are highly questionable. However, 'Roughstuff', with the more distinctive alt modes, does look the superior toy.

What I liked about the 1989 Decepticon Micromasters is that (to me) all the transports and bases neatly go with the two Patrols.
Air Strike Patrol have Flattop and his Aircraft Carrier and Airwaves Airport. Skyhopper also fits with these because he is a jet with a helicopter.
Sports Car Patrol have a ground transport with Roughstuff, a gas station with Greasepit and I've always paired Skystalker with them because although he has a space shuttle, he is a sports car himself.
I suppose the only way my OCD could have been even more content would be if Overload was a Decepticon instead of Roughstuff. (But then Phil would claim that he is actually Motormaster instead of Magnus).

Flattop for two reasons. One, Roughstuff is rubbish. Both the vehicle modes don't really resemble vehicles. Two, Little Victories.
