I think the Dinobots suit swords. Grimlock works as well with a sword as he does his blaster. They're wade in, hand-to-hand types. They're not so much pew-pew as THUMP.

Have I never mentioned my loathing of swords? I thought I'd made it clear with my dulcet vocal chords. If you were building a real fighting 'bot, A sword you would give it certainly not. But while we are making such a list, The same thing equally applies to the fist. Fingers are delicate, precious things, Not to be smashed into reinforced chins. Real fighting robots would use weapons like Stranglehold's chain flail with many a spike. Battering rams with spikes would also do well, And a good big drill would sure raise some hell. Circular saws and and flippers like in Robot Wars, And grappling cables to trip up walking bores. Martin

That's probably why I didn't like him as much when he became Decepticon leader - he became Skeletor (which just wasn't cool in the late 80's). Falsehood! Skeletor has ALWAYS been cool! NYAH!

Wouldn't Stranglehold's shell be a fine one for Grimlock? And Bludgeon's shell for Starscream would certainly rock. Oh, and Pincher's helmet has a bifurcated visor. So giving that design to Jazz might have been wiser. Martin

Of course Skeletor is cool www.facebook.com/grumpyskeletor/ - but every cool and famous person goes through that period of being old hat before they become a legend. Just look at Vanilla Ice or Rick Astley - popular - naff - legends.

In the final hours of Rhyming Week I would like to pay homage to the great rhymer of the Transformers UK comic... the Killer Clown! Enemy of the samurai chimps. I like to think that one of the chimps who got killed had all the flesh burnt off and his skeleton gave the Decepticons the inspiration for Bludgeon's Pretender shell. Laser blaster beats sword in this battle anyway. I love the surreal way he rhymes 'dares' with the narrator's caption word 'flares'. Martin

This could be the first time we can safely say that result of this poll was actually based upon the toy itself...

Should be Bumblebee as the inner robot is the only one that improves on the original but have to vote Starcream for nostalgic reasons. Also like the colours on the shell.

Perhaps Hasbro actually realised which toy in each sub group was the weakest (Swoop, Nightbeat, Bludgeon) and forced Simon to give them more character and exposition as that would help even them out with the others in the assortment.
Edit: Why they would do that with Swoop, I don't know. Must have been a case of LOOK WHAT YOU CANNOT HAVE!

I have no experience with any of these IRL but remember being disappointed by the fact Grimlock needed his detachable tail to form the robot mode. This Jazz toy was the one which prompted complaints from Scatman Crothers as the shell was Caucasian. Think I'll vote Bumblebee due to in-story approval of return to classic form over Goldbug.

I saw these in a shops. All four. But didn't get them, because at the time, for a brief time, I was buying Action Force figured. I let them go. It was only after they had left the shelves that I become mildly obsessed with them for a time. Partially in the hope of a Wave Two that would feature Prowl, Wheeljack, and maybe Soundwave...
Never seen them in the plastic. Not sure who to vote for.

Some odd prototype guns here. Jazz's robot is holding Sludge's, BB's shell a modified PM Op Riffle. I think Starscream has a Snaptrap gun and BB's robot a black Nautilator gun.
