A sad day this: last day of voting on a complete set of six original Spychanger/Gobot moulds.
At least one will return later, but we'll never see the set of all six again :-(
(Llama uncorks the Champagne)
Tomorrow: Rounding off our look at RiD something that might be RiD or might not be RiD - I can accept arguments both ways given the toys, characters and what happens to them. Either way here's a good place to take care of this rather odd one off set. Spychangers are involved.....

These six toys were first issued in late 2003 and were sold at KB Toys on a cardback similar to the Unicron Battles Armada packaging which was also used on the second set of KB Toys RiD Deluxe Exclusives, Megabolt & Jhiaxus There is no series name on the packaging Excuse the watermarks, Finding decent reference images for these carded was a right BLEEP! Here's five of the six (no Jazz) together in an auction: The carback was identical for all 6, sorry poor image :-( These six Spychangers are generally called Univese Spychangers thanks to their 2005 re-release on Universe cardback which were sold through discount chains.

Packaging Comparison: RID branded individual Spychangers on original Armada style cards, non branded individual KB Spychangers on the second Armada style card and KB Deluxes Week 315: What is the best Robots in Disguise Clear Coloured Spychangers (KB Toys 2003)? Finding decent reference images for these carded was a right BLEEP! Here's five of the six (no Jazz) together in an auction:

Going with Silverstreak because he just looks really nice.
Was this the first time his pre-Transformers colours were homaged? I wasn't even aware this existed before now

Had you seen any of these before? Bluestreak's Diaclone colours is what they're going for here www.diaclone.net/orid/dia042/index.htmlHowever the blue/grey used for the majority of the car isn't a great choice: it's not blue enough to be Blue Bluestreak, and it's nearly dark enough to be a colour swapped version of the mainly Silver with Black bonnet Diaclone Bluestreak It's worth noting this set though as they are all definitive homages to their G1 versions, colours and characters. Hasbro was on a bit of a G1 hit at this time with the Armada Uniocron Battles repaints (which, as we'll see, don't 100% emerge as planned) being released slightly before these Spychanger repaints

Had you seen any of these before? Definitely Wheeljack, Prowl, and Jazz. Probably Optimus Prime. Silverstreak and Brawn look new to me, but if I'm honest with myself I've been in this hobby long enough, and am old enough now, that I could simply be forgetting that I saw them...

The green one would probably have been better as Brawn - it's Hoist!
They get the colours right, unlike Machine Wars, but to me Hoist isn't Hoist without his towing gear ....
..... unless he's Armada Hoist who I think is due two weeks today!

I'm merely hinting which way I have voted and asking that people are sure of their choice....

Street Action Team! Off the wall vehicle modes for Transformers and made sense at that size.
(Psst Phil - You you have the names of the combined mode as the first Minicon in each individual picture).
(In fact the names are all a bit muddled. Is this the Wiki's fault?)

Wheeljack wins! What is wrong with you all? The Optimus is AMAZING! Bugger. Did I forget to vote last week? I've got a feeling I did, since Friday mornings, being nursery mornings, often get away from me. And then I just forget. If only I hadn't, then the result would've been very different. Wheeljack would've won with 5 votes instead... (A shock, I know, but it is a very nice car mode.) As to this week, I imagine you're waiting for some sort of vitriol from me, given my general, original opinion of Robots in Disguise. Well... I actually wasn't as opposed to Armada, because they were giving us all new toys. And new versions of old characters, which I quite welcomed. At the time the whole "collect them all" aspect of the Minicons wasn't for me, but I did also like Micromasters back in the day, and appreciated their spiritual return. I didn't ultimately ever end up getting many Armada figures, but that was more for financial and political reasons than anything else. My opinion on the cartoon, on the other hand, is something else instead. But it was never meant for me, so never mind. As to the question in hand... well it's slightly overwhelming. So I'll go for the planes. Always a good bet. Especially when they combine into a sword.

Just out of interest, why are we doing all of these in one clump and not waves?

Welcome to the UNICRON TRILOGY and TRANFORMERS ARMADA! Very much a reboot from Hasbro with the previous size classes going out the window for the mainline. Really I had to start with the Minicons as they're the real gamechanger here. Replacing the basic size class we now get 3 tiny Transformers in a Multipack ala the Micromasters of old. Unlike the Micromasters the Minicons have better interaction with larger toys, attaching to and activating action features. 11 is a large number for a poll, ideally something 4-6 is better, and *possibly* the largest poll we've done. But I couldn't really find a way to slice the cake in a good way. NORMALLY I'd be presenting you a nice table of repaints here with links etc. These toys however get reused to oblivion over the next 4 and a bit years so the table ended up as a complete monster with lots of rows and thus lots of pictures which may test some people's connections, especially on Mobiles. So over the next few weeks MONTHS (!!) as we vote on each team's members on a Monday I'll produce the table for each team BUT I have screencapped each team on the test version so .....

Just out of interest, why are we doing all of these in one clump and not waves? Probably because I've generally avoided doing things in waves. But yeah, it's a reasonable suggestion until we get to w4 at which point you have to think what you do with the Sea Team, and the obvious choice is to shove them into w6 with the Air Military and Emergency teams but they're kind of in opposition to each other, both with weapons modes, and that then leaves w2 as the only set of 2 which hurts my OCD. I did think of splitting this into themes:Combiners, Missile Launchers, Gear Gimmicks but that then ran into trouble with the Street Speed Team. At which point I went F*** It and stuck them all in together.

I tried to do something clever in the week and Hyperlink the names as well as the pictures. My data set of names and links had the combined modes before the members and I must have copied the wrong info across. Will fix. I *THINK* it's just the combined sets that are wrong?

I prefer them all in one lump personally. Means we can cover more ground and I rarely think of old toys as waves anyway.

Yes, Seemed to be just the groups with a combined mode. Didn't wantvto be picky, but might confuse people who don't quite know their Minicons as well as their Mini Autobots. (I am one of them...)

If the order in which poll options appear could match the image order it would be greatly appreciated. Especially on super large weeks like this week.

I've shifted the names one to the left, lining everything up & eliminating the combined mode. Will put the linked name on for the rightmost Minicon in a bit.
