Phil has changed the closing time of the polls week by week! This affects in the results! In the interests of impartiality and fairness let the Hub guide his hand!
(Adjust times for other time zones you may be in)

The other week the poll continued until mid-day! Confusion reigns! Merely have a FIXED end time and have this stated for each poll!!!

+/- a couple of hours hardly matters given the poll runs for a full week giving more than adequate time for voting... and campaigning.

The time of closing is not as important as knowing when!

The time of closing is not as important as knowing when! -Ralph It's not important to know when it ends, so long as we all know it never ends before Thursday midnight, and that Phil doesn't deliberately delay in closing the poll when he gets up. Because anyone who cares about their vote will vote before Thursday midnight. There's no excuse not to have voted by Thursday, since no-one has anything new to add to inform the debate by that point. Or at least they shouldn't have. Vote early, vote once. Martin

Then by that logic the polls should close midnight on Thursday. Which would be fine!
Make it so, Phil.

Then just put a bit on each week's question politely asking folk to vote by midnight Thursday. After all, we might have new Hubbers at some point.

New hubbers? I remember being new. Before the yoke was fastened. Now we all just trudge in circles driving the mighty engine that is Ralph's imagination.
I can only see the hard deadline being useful for last minute manipulation like sniping eBay auctions. It'd be more accurate if we all just voted as we felt, which after all is the point. This is more a survey than a competition.

Having detected a tinsy hint of an actual issue amidst Burns' guff at his choice not winning, I have taken prompt action!
Of course most of us had worked out you needed to vote by Thursday night some considerable time ago.....

I wouldn't worry, they'll be another midday+ start before too long as I'm going away without interweb access in late Oct. I might also be travelling this coming Friday when we Dare to find out who's got The Touch....

Blenhiem's a palace, yes?

Post by Shockprowl on Sept 1, 2018 16:51:38 GMT
It is a palace, but the palace is named after a battle, the Battle of Blenheim, 1704, part of the War of the Spanish Succession, where the near invincible French armies of Louis XIV, The Sun King, were finally defeated by a British & Austrian lead coalition army commanded by John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough, and Prince Eugene of Savoy. It is one of the greatest victories the British army has ever been involved in, and a crucial moment in european history. If Louis had managed to knock Austria out of the war early, as he was intending, the British, Dutch and German Princes would not have been able to withstand him, & France would have dominated Europe (and a hundred years later Napoleon would have been in an even stronger position). Marlborough and Eugene saved Europe. It's thrilling, but equally disturbing, given the destruction and lives lost. A grateful Queen Anne (I think) built the palace for Churchill. His ancestor, one Winston Churchill, was born there. Eugene would briefly mentor the future Frederick the Great later in life. IT'S ALL CONNECTED.
