New weekly title launches this week: downthetubes.net/?p=100452EDIT: Unable to find a copy and I checked a large WH Smiths. I like to give #1's of new UK titles a chance but can't buy what isn't there. -Ralph

If I can find one I'll pick it up to show willing. Can't see me following a football focused comic weekly though. I'll pass it round my class if it's appropriate.

Football comics are not usually my bag but I like to at least give new UK comics a try. If I see a copy of #1 I'll give it a go.

This would not be to your taste Ralph.
When next we assemble though, I shall let you read what issues I have delivered at that point.

Been looking, but I'm pretty sure it's not in my Smiths. Not even among all the kids' football mags. My word there are more of those than I reckoned on.

Weekly comics can still work in today's market if launched properly. The Phoenix must be over 350 issues by now, for example.

Indeed. That gets a boost on the education ticket though. It's a staple in school libraries.

True but even so it must sell enough to make it worthwhile or it would be dead by now.

That is a good point, however I don't think I've ever seen it in a shop. I'd assumed it got by on education subs. When I controlled the library budget at my last school we had a subscription. It was very popular. They offer term only subs too, so it isn't delivered over holidays. I didn't go for that. Holes in a collection? No chance.

It started as subscription only and has slowly expanded with limited distribution in some Waitrose, Sainsburgeries and Wh Smiths stores. I've seen it in the wild many a time.
Back issues are on the online store as are for subs. I used to subscribe and it wasn't just for term times. Current subs are a tenner a month.
A quality comic though stopped sub as I would rather get some of it as collected editions instead (which I keep forgetting to do).

I don't think it will get there. Less than 24 hours away now.
I subscribed to the first 12 but it's not for me so I won't be sticking around. Hope they can do something with it though.

That is good news - more diverse comics are a good thing.
