I'd say that it's because they were moving on to the next thing, but other pretenders from that time were used.
The things Takara skipped have always been kinda odd.

Look at that. The backdrop for the Beast Machines toys. VHS cassettes painted Cybertron orange with blue LEDs in the tape Windows. Clever. That works quite well.
