Now we all know that catalogues have often used earlier versions of toys and there can be differences. What counts is what actually makes it to shops! -Ralph Sometimes what comes to the shops is a mistake! This is obviously the case with Hubcap... BECAUSE HUBCAP BEING YELLOW IS A STUPID IDEA!!!!!! Or an attempt by Hasbro to sell parents something that looks like BB but isn't.

YELLOW CLIFFJUMPER AND BUMPER ARE NOT MISTAKES!!! Then why was Cliffjumper always red from the start on his box art and tech-specs? And why was Bumper sold in Bumblebee or Cliffjumper packaging? Was that deliberate? OK, so Bluestreak's box art colour didn't match the toy, but 1985 Cliffjumpers were all red, while Bluestreak stayed silver. Martin Many fans were quite happy with their yellow Cliffjumpers. Besides the packaging art often rarely resembled the toys! -Ralph

I don't see anyone complaining about all red cars looking the same yet folk haven't been screaming there can only be one red car robot for the past 34 years.

Many fans were quite happy with their yellow Cliffjumpers. I certainly was. I never really realised as a kid he was supposed to be red. In my head, Cliffjumper is yellow.

Very easy to tell them apart.

But Hubcap and Bumblebee look completely different. They also had different names, character art and tech specs on the packaging. Very easy to tell them apart. And yet: I can never remember which Construticon is which. Despite the Constructicons turning into very different things. But the problem with Hubcap isn't one of not being _able_ to tell him apart from Bumblebee, Bumper and yellow Cliffjumper - it's one of monotony. It's just boring repetition that's completely unnecessary. I just can't fathom why the person selecting the colour chose to repeat the same colour again when they could have chosen anything... even a slightly different shade of yellow! But no, it's the same yellow. Martin

But no one complains about all the red Autobot cars. Next poll: What colour should G2 Hubcap have been? And red Bumblebee was also a mistake. Apart from that, like Shockprowl said, the red Autobot cars are all very different as toys - more different than Bumblebee and Cliffjumper who have the same proportions and same transformation. Like the Throttlebot cars. If two of them were the same colour, we'd be scratching our heads and asking why. Don't get me wrong, I like the aesthetic when a team has a uniform colour scheme, like the Insecticons and Constructicons, but there's no suggestion that Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Hubcap and Bumper are a special foursome called the Yellowbots, who stand apart from the other Mini Autobots and go round doing yellow-car things together. With them, it's less of a team uniform and more of a turning-up-to-a-social-gathering-wearing-identical-outfits kind of vibe. Martin

I was genuinely surprised at how different Bumblebee and Hubcap were when I first got both.
Identical transformations yes, but they're as different to eat other as Throttlebots are. Which is much more than the original Decepticon jet trio.

Am I the only person who can see that Bumblebee and Hubcap are completely different looking cars? No, that's not in dispute. I can see that even Runabout and Runamuck are different cars. It's agreed Bumblebee and Hubcap are as different from one another as the Throttlebots are from one another. But that's still too similar for it to make sense for them to be the same colour. They are the same sizes and proportions as one another and identical as far as transformation design is concerned. Surely you would concede that Bumblebee and Hubcap have more in common with each other as toys than they have with, say, Brawn or Windcharger? Martin

From the secret files of the Hasbro Mini Autobot Series 3 Design Steering Group Committee Board Thingy:
Number One: "All right, so we have a tight design budget and can't afford to do a professional job of designing new Mini Autobot toys from scratch this year, so we're forced to cannibalise series 1 and hope the kids don't notice what we've done. I gave you each an assignment and 24 hours to come up with an idea. What have you got for me?"
Tommy Tailgate: "I've taken the Windcharger design and given him a new face, and changed his colour to white."
Number One: "Adequate. Next?"
Sammy Swerve: "I've taken the Gears design and given him a new face, and changed his colour scheme to burgundy and white."
Number One: "It'll do. Next?"
Olly Outback: "I've taken the Brawn design and given him a new face and changed his colour scheme to khaki and brown, and get this - I've shaved some height off his spare tyre and GIVEN HIM A TURRET GUN!!!"
*room falls silent in awe of Olly's genius*
Number One: "Instant promotion. Next?"
Polly Pipes: "I've taken the Huffer design and changed his engineering so that he's actually facing the other way in robot mode, and his elbows bend normally rather than him doing a ghost/zombie pose all the time, and replaced his claws with cannons, and given him a new face and changed his colour scheme to blue, but a previously unused dark blue, not Beachcomber blue."
Number One: "Instant promotion, with a warning that no-one likes an over-achiever. Next?"
Willy Wheelie: "I binned the Bumblebee design, and came up with... THIS! All my own work."
Number One: "I'll deal with you later. And finally?"
Harry Hubcap (wearing a yellow hard-hat, yellow tie, yellow raincoat and yellow wellies): "Well, I took the Cliffjumper design, removed his spoiler and gave him a new face."
Number One: "And?"
Harry Hubcap: "Well, I tried and tried to think of something original to do with his colour scheme, but I couldn't think of any other colours, so... We've had a yellow Bumblebee, yellow Cliffjumper and yellow Bumper, all with the same proportions and engineering, and I just couldn't get the colour yellow out of my head. So... it's another yellow one."
Number One (hopefully): "A different shade of yellow?"
Harry Hubcap: "No, same yellow. It's just so... mellow, yellow."
Number One: "I see. Well, it's too late to think of another colour now, I suppose."
