I've found this series to be ok but I went to pick up #9, saw it on the shelf and yet strangely didn't feel like buying it. Hmmm.

Did the hardcover of the first twelve issues come out? I thought it was due in October, but looking for places to buy it, it seems to have a release date in January? I see Volume 2 is issues 13-18 plus Galaxies 1-6, so I guess if you're buying collected books for this series, these hardbacks are the way to do it.

I haven't seen the HC but then I lost interest in the new IDW comics so haven't kept track.

Heh. So with six months and no posts I take it everyone here has given up on this series?
Having just re-read the series in prep for issue 20 finally materialising I find I like the series more and more each time I read it, with each new bunch of issues added. I've always been generally favourable towards it but now I find myself really enjoying it and hoping it stays around for a good long while yet. I think the problem with earlier issues was this story doesn't appear to have been written for a comic: it's been written for a novel which is why it was so conversation heavy and action lite. But I do find it's hit more a stride.
Taken as a series I find it a really compelling take on my favourite warring mechanoid race. It's perhaps the most 'real', most grounded in verisimilitude approach we've seen so far and as a 45 year old I find I really resonate with that. I've wanted a 'adult' version of this story for so many years, and not mere lip-service in the way of explicit violence or a few swears sprinkled about, but one where the characters are portrayed as real adults who have real adult conversations and who react to things in adult ways. I'm not a child; I don't need explosions and battles every issue.
I have to give props to IDW for sticking with it. It can't have been easy for them to green-light such a cerebral, slow-paced series given the way they started back in 2006. It shows they put a lot of faith in Ruckley's story.
I'm also really enjoying the way he's managing to weave such a large cast through the book, including putting some real obscure characters into the mix in surprising ways (Trickdiamond? Nice!). I also find it a thrill that he's show-casing characters from Siege - many of which I actually own. Not since my days as a boy growing up with the marvel UK issues every week have I had that, and I love it.
In short, if you're on the fence about this series at all, give it another read. I think in time many of us will look back on this series much more fondly than we are currently (like many are now doing with Deep Space 9 and the Star Wars Prequels).

No, I'm getting it in HC's as it absolutely does not work as a monthly serial but in larger doses it's a more satisfying experience.
Just annoyed that the Galaxies thing brought back the Enigma of Combination bollocks so quickly.

I gave up on the series as it bored me. Decent ideas but just thunderingly dull. Very little happened in each $4 issue to warrant sticking with it.
To be honest, I had completely forgotten about this series until today's post. I hadn't given it much thought after dropping it.
I had also forgotten about Galaxies. I read #1 and it failed as a #1 by not setting out a premise for the series.

I keep telling myself I need to get the first one before it goes out of print. I was just hoping the price would drop a bit, but it seems to have held around £30.

Had v1 in my Comixology account since the last sale, not read yet Do you know if there are is bonus content - cover galleries, statements by the creators, etc? Just alternate covers. The B covers are used as spacers after the issue, the RIs at the rear. Although there's artist credits for all saying *WHICH* issue they're for and which variant would have been useful. And someone has been very naughty and half inched a Buck Rogers starfighter for one cover.

It's very unnerving having a thread in recent threads view that's just called 'Transformers'.

Has anyone checked the bonus content, if any, for Vol 2. I'm sure it's similar to vol one, but would like to be sure.

I'm finding it difficult to like the Straxus redesign. It just doesn't look right. It may be the new nose, or the smiling mouth, or the fact that it's not a head in a jar.

Anna says there is a reason he looks like that. I like it, as it hints at him being somewhat less powerful character, who you could see evolving into that big beefy dadbod design of the Marvel run.
But yes - head in a jar is where he is at his best.
