So. Let's see now. In Transformers: The Movie, Hot Rod interfered in Optimus' battle with Megatron, despite his friend Kip's warnings not to. Optimus was clearly winning his duel! HotRod's foolish interference gave the defeated Megatron the opportunity to grab the, surprisingly small, Blaster of Death and fatality shoot noble Optimus.
Then, oh what a surprise! Hot Bastard gets himself all Primed up! Coincidence? OR PRE-PLANNED MURDER?!?!?!
MURDER I SAY!
And, therefore, anyone who owns a HotRod or Rodimus toy, particularly the MP09, is a TRAITOR TO OPTIMUS PRIME!!!!

Hot Rod was in no way responsible.
But really it was for the best. Getting rid of the chaff so that the glorious Rodimus Prime could rise and light our darkest hour.

No, Megatron killed Optimus. Blaming Hotrod is like (walking dead spoilers) people blaming Daryl for Glenn's death.

As I recall, he needed dead Optimus's help to open the Matrix. And everything went downhill for the future Autobots once RP became leader, in the UK comics. Martin

No, Megatron killed Optimus. Blaming Hotrod is like (walking dead spoilers) people blaming Daryl for Glenn's death. Yeah, I don't know what that means.... TWD spoilers It was a very similar situation. Negan, the bad guy killed fan favorite Glenn by bashing his head in with a baseball bat, he said because fan favorite Daryl acted up when Negan was holding them all hostage. Glenn fans blamed Daryl, instead of placing the blame on the murderer who actually killed the character. This is the same thing. Megatron is the monster who was going to kill Optimus either way. It's deferring guilt to blame Hotrod. He didn't hold the gun, aim it, and kill optimus. If you took him out of the situation, Megatron would have killed Optimus. If you took megatron out of the situation, Hotrod would not have killed Optimus.

NOOOOO!!!!! Optimus had Megatron beat! Game over! Incapacitated and taken into custody! Hot Rod's NEGLIGENT interference gave Megatron the crutial seconds he needed to grab the Death Blaster!
If HotRod hadn't interfered Optimus Prime would not have been shot by Megatron.

Megatron killed him but wouldn't have had the chance without Hot Rod.
I mean Hot Rod wasn't trying to kill Optimus and wasn't working with Megatron in some kind of conspiracy. In a court of law I doubt Hot Rod would be convicted of murder. Maybe of Manslaughter as he was being hopelessly reckless, but even that I doubt.
Totally to blame for providing Megatron with the opurtunity to kill Prime though.

Megatron appeared in a hundred stories with Op without killing him. Hot Rod appears for the first time in a story with Op, and Op dies. Highly suspicious.

It is suspicious. Hot Rod's Techspecs give him an intelligence of 10! He obviously planned the entire thing, like a game of chess, slowly all the pieces fell I to place, allowing him to achieve his ultimate goal: REPLACING OPTIMUS PRIME!

As soon as Rodimus lost his manipulative mind Optimus returned. Coincidence? I think not!
And then Rodimus spent most of the second episode trying to kill Optimus again while blaming it on a red glowy 'Hate Plague' which is as ridiculous and unbelievable as it sounds.

When you travel back in time, you're supposed to target your enemies to displace to Limbo. Galvatron displaced Prime, Prowl and Ratchet. Who did Rodimus Prime choose to send to Limbo during the Time Wars? Optimus Prime!
Fortress Maximus recognised it for the treacherous act it was and gave him a good wrongly coloured thrashing for it.

There is no longer a working Matrix to power him up. Therefore he cannot cheat his way to the top any longer.

Yes, it's quite obvious when you watch the movie. The little gun Megatron picks up shoots purple lasers: The shots that fell Prime are orange lasers: Where did the orange lasers come from?

Prime gets hit with a couple of purple lasers first, so we can't fully place the blame on Hot Rod.
Perceptor is also to blame for not having enough medical knowledge. Ratchet probably could've saved Prime, and who killed him? Starscream with Megatron. It's a tangled conspiracy, but Hot Rod is involved.

GOD!It... it really is undeniable...
