This may be the first MCU film I skip. I thought Homecoming was crap and this looks like more of the same. Besides, with 'Into the Spider-verse' I got a cinematic Spidey film I really liked so I am happy enough anyway!

Just another MCU formulaic, tick the boxes for the Disney execs who only care about takings, low brow, conceived in a writers room movie judging from the trailer.
Can we have something different please?

Can't wait. Loved the last one - and every scene this SM has been in, for that matter. But yeah, you can't get more spoilery for Endgame than that. Martin

Second trailer seems to advertise a completely different (and significantly more enticing for me) film than the first trailer! Hooray!

So the social media reaction that I've seen so far has been entirely enthusiastic "Yay Multiverse! Potential Spiderverse crossover, maybe opens up possibilities for other Marvel properties in the MCU!" but all I thought while watching the trailer was "Ah, Mysterio! That will all be lies and illusion then".
Are there relatively recent developments in the comics that I have missed? Knowing the least thing about who Mysterio is/was should make anyone extremely suspicious of that trailer (from that point of view it could be quite a good trailer as it doesn't even hint at that).

I think about half of the MCU fans out there have never read a comicbook in their lives, so Mysterio probably will come as a huge suckerpunch to the majority of them.
I'm already seeing him glorified and memed as peter's new father figure.

Marvel are usually very good at non spoilery trailers.
On the other hand I dont know how much Sony had to do with this one.
I vaguely feel like I wish I hadnt seen either of them right now.

Knowing me I'll probably buy the SM:FFH 'Prelude' trade just before seeing the film, and it'll have some historic/classic Mysterio appearances in it to give me an idea of who he is.

Mysterio... imagine if David Blain or David Copperfield hadn't become successful, and went into supervillainy, instead.
He's a failed stage magician who now uses his illusions to commit crimes.

For all the crap he gets, it's actually a really really clever concept for a supervillain.
And I kinda feel like he should be treated as more dangerous and higher profile than Marvel generally does. It'd be really interesting to see him go against Dr Strange.

Occasionally he has been done really well; that was one of the things I liked about the slightly rocky Kevin Smith run. I have a feeling there was another story with him I really liked more recently, maybe during Brand New Day, but my old man brain is failing me.
I'm not dunking on MCU fans who don't know the comics btw, in my particular Twitter echo chamber I'm really seeing it from people who I _know_ should know better than this! I think it's in part the social media feedback loop effect (see also the reaction to the end of Infinity War last year - I mean, how did people think that was going to go?), especially with so many people enthusiastic from Spiderverse.

I'm glad Mysterio is getting such a major spotlight. But post Endgame, I kinda feel like bringing Norman Osborn into the MCU is the best way to go. In a world without Tony Stark, there is just so much potential for Osborn to become the Anti-Stark.
Peter messes up a few times because he's a kid, and the whole Spider Menace rhetoric starts. Osborn cultivates a Stark-like public facade (maybe even so far as being the new Iron Patriot) by doing a lot of charity work, but is dirty as it gets. No one believes Spiderman because J Jonah Jameson and Osborn keep dirtying his name, and no one believes Peter because they think he's just mourning Tony.
Tony Stark was the backbone of the MCU for the first decade. It'd be interesting to see a villain become the backbone for the second.

The year 2020 is an invitation for Arno Stark to appear on the scene as the Iron Man of 2020.
But it's hard to see a recurring villain make a greater impact than Loki has done. Martin

Out on shiny disc today. As a rule I'm collecting films on 4K + Blu-ray these days, but the 3D + Blu-ray steelbook came with a bonus disc, and I'm a sucker for a bonus disc, so the 3D + Blu-ray steelbook it is.

Ahhh, I wondered why the scene with the cops from the trailer wasn't in the movie. It's not from the movie, it's from the Blu-ray short 'Peter's To-Do List'.
