Well this is... horrifying.
The first few times I saw it, I thought it was the god awful animu eyes that killed her. But more recently I realize it's her whole package. Every element, I've seen done so much better.

Okay, while I don't think much of the song (but it's not awful), that's actually a pretty cool music video.

I can't decide if I want to see this or not.

Three things shut me out- Alita being an unnecessary CGI character, Alita having those awful animu eyes when literally no one else does, and James Cameron should not be allowed anything to do with this. He's tried for decades to get the rights to Battle Angel Alita, and kept failing. He eventually ripped it off and did it anyway under the guise of Dark Angel. (I can't find anything about this today, but I remember this being really public back in the day)
If it weren't for these factors, I might actually be excited about this.

I finally saw it, and actually regret passing it up in the theater. It was a lot better than I thought it would be.

This bank holiday I have been mostly reading 'Iron City', the prequel novel to Alita: Battle Angel, a film I've become more appreciative of over time. I can't understand now why I only gave it a middling ranking on the film league table for the year it came out. The book's not bad, about life in a city where getting cyborg parts is as easy and done as lightly as getting a tattoo in our world. Still completely ignorant of the manga so no idea if it's at all faithful to the source material. Edit: Taking this at face value, I guess it's pretty faithful: Martin

I've started reading the manga, and I realize this will likely get me shot in the head, but I enjoyed the movie a lot better.
The story is a lot better thought out,the character motivations are better (they actually have them), and the world building is just better in general.

I don't know who here is going to shoot you, but I agree, at least insofar as I don't really care for the aesthetic of the manga and have no appetite to read it, while I love the movie and the expanded universe created by its two associated novels.

Well, i don't mean anyone here specifically, but more in general, given the cult status of the manga, and how many people claim it's one of the best things ever made.
The movie takes it's time to do things, and gives her motivations to do them. She has a love for life, family, and friends. She decides after some time to become a bounty hunter in order to protect these things. In the manga she does it in the first or second chapter, for no other reason than she wants to fight.
