It doesn't seem right to have one Autobot brother without the other. It... aggravates me, and causes me to not enjoy the character I have, if I have one and not the another.
Is this just me?
From my perspective, it's always been Sideswipe without Sunstreaker (mostly). I had G1 Sideswipe for yonks 'till I got Classic Heroes Sunstreaker. I've had MP Sideswipe for years, and have never gotten a MP Sunstreaker. I had Alternators Sideswipe ages before a Binaltech Sunstreaker joined him. Classics I got both fairly close together... But now with Siege I have (the very nice indeed) Sideswipe, with no corresponding Sunstreaker in sight. Combiner Wars is the only occasion where I've had Sunstreaker without Sideswipe, but poor Sunny was quickly swapped out by Mirage in the Perchance to Dream Dream-Team.
I want to enjoy my Sideswipes more. How can I get over this? Should I get over this? And does this apply to other pairs of characters? To some pairs it may be more potent! Such as the Jumpstarters or Battlechargers...

I think CW is the only occasion where we have gotten Sunstreaker without Sideswipe.
I don't think they should only come in pairs, but I do wonder why everyone hyper fixates on Sideswipe. He has no real personality, and the only noteworthy or memorable thing he's done is become the face of G2. Even in sunbow, he was mostly just standing around, and occasionally added to pile of evidence that he was supposed to use sunstreaker's mold.
But he's the one who always gets toys. He always gets updates, and consistantly gets new reimaginings. Even though Sunstreaker is the one who's memorable, and who gets interesting stories, and has an interesting personality.

Errr, I probably find them equally as interesting, character and toy-wise to be honest. Sideswipe is quite an attractive sportscar Autobot. And personality-wise, he's ok, you know, "I don't break rules, I bend them... a lot", "Often injured due to rash actions, takes them all in stride"...etc. He's not as bad as all that. Better than freakin' Hot Rod anyway...
My main point is how to enjoy one without the other.
I've even been wondering... Should they have been 'brothers' at all...? Doesn't make all that much sense really. Almost seems like a throw-away gimmick employed by God Bob.

Well, in the Marvel comics, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker only worked together and spoke to each other on one occasion, in the battle at Sparkplug's scrap yard in TF US #2. Sideswipe appeared without his 'brother' in stories such as 'Decepticon Dambusters' and 'Dinobot Hunt', and then Sunstreaker was without Sideswipe throughout the Earthforce saga, including the 'Perchance to Dream' flashback. Sideswipe wasn't even a member of the Magnificent Six back on Cybertron, which Sunstreaker was a part of. And then Sideswipe featured heavily in the G2 comic, in which Sunstreaker didn't appear at all.
I always liked Sideswipe, but not based on the stories he was in. I liked him because he was a red Lamborghini, which I thought looked amazing, and he had so many interesting abilities - piledriver arms, jet pack, flare gun. By contrast, Sunstreaker's abilities were just standard weapons.
I resented Hot Rod, not only for nicking Tracks' idea for a flame design, but also for nicking Sideswipe's fearless act-first-think-later personality. (Just as Kup nicked Ironhide's character.)

I don't know why Bob labelled Sideswipe and Sunstreaker 'brothers'. They are both Lamorghinis, but different kinds of Lamborgini. It would have made more sense to make Bluestreak and Prowl 'brothers'.
And where does Red Alert come into it?

I always favoured Sideswipe as I had the toy and he was at least in the comic when I started getting it. Sunstreaker was already deactivated by this point. I do think that there's a more interesting character in Sunstreaker based on the tech-specs but sadly nothing was really ever done with it.

Anyway, speaking as one half of a brother-duo, it never bothered me if there was one without the other. They're brothers, not co-joined twins. They are allowed to go off and have their own adventures, you know!
It's a problem if the only way you personalise them is 'Sideswipe is Sunstreakers brother' or vice versa. Fortunately, Uncle Bobby B gave them a bit more of a personality.

I don't think I have owned a Sunstreaker toy. His original one is poo but the first Sideswipe mould is fabulous. His box art turned up on lots of tat back in the day which is also probably why I prefer him.

I've got both. Sunstreaker isn't poo, he's just not as robust and straightforward as Sideswipe. Sideswipe is probably my favourite Diaclone car mould. He and Prowl are the top cars to me.
That's the weird thing about Sideswipe, he looks so good and got used a lot in art, but never really featured in the stories. I've always thought he should be more renowned than he is.

Yes my dear Pinwig *puffs on pipe*, I find myself in complete agreement with your assesment there. Sideswipe is a very tidy toy. And character-wise, he could've been a more interesting version of the 'Hot Rod' type character.

I'm always bothered by this too.
I'm always chasing down my perfect teams, which do include sideswipe and sunstreaker.
I'm always trying to make up my teams of bots and cons, I go for mostly deluxes and I'm fine mixing different lines (because im a heretic) to achieve an interesting team (finally (mostly) finished my deluxe mixed line seeker team) but I'm always having problems with the bots. I have been toying with the idea of just picking up a mold I like for the lambros, painting the car bits the appropriate red and yellow and the giving the bot modes identical paint schemes... or vice versa... I can't find a good mold for tracks either, which is annoying as he is one of my all time favourites.
Also mp is rubbish, too big, to fiddly, to break-y, and to expensive. But mostly too big. Leader class (except the new siege leaders, which are excellent) are also rubbish.
Cool be damned I say!
