Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! But this very evening my MP3 player gave up the ghost so needs replacing. That is a higher priority. I shall have to take my chances on an agent at TF Nation looking for a (more expensive) Ectotron then! -Ralph

Your phone will play MP3s. Now you have money for toys.

He is aware of this already.
I have had this talk several times since he first entered the smartphone age.

Can you still buy MP3 players?

There's a degree of personal preference there though. I have a phone, but I prefer to manage my music and podcasts on a separate device because my iPod nano (7th generation, little one with a touchscreen) is far less cumbersome to keep in a pocket than a phone. Especially when running.
I realise I'm in a minority though because Apple don't make them any more. ITunes is terrible terrible software, but there's nothing as good as it for managing podcasts and my phone is android.

Can you still buy MP3 players? You can, but it's definitely a thing of the past. I've been looking because the battery in my nano is almost dead. Apple only make the bigger Touch and Sony do a couple, but fir the most part it's cheap crap ones.

I use Castbox currently on android for my Podcasts. My note 9 comes running with me, I have a case and strap and it goes on my arm (helps me keep an eye on my progress using strava).

Was speaking about that with Billy the other week (of TFN fame, not the Star dub version of Blaster) he ended up picking up an ipod nano for when travelling, just so his phone battery could be spared.

I love my nano. I need to prolong its life and you can get replacement batteries, but it's a delicate looking soldering job. I'd need to know someone who was adept at opening up small electronic devices and rebuilding them.
*Looks at Blueshift*

I watched that too. That's child's play compared to rebuilding a Gameboy! All you have to do is pop the case off, unsolder the battery and solder on a new one...
No? Apple charge about sixty quid to do that you know. And even then they send you a reconditioned one, not your own, which is why I don't want to do it. Mine's immaculate cos it lives in a case.
Actually, Andy, if Billy bought a nano, where did he get it from? I thought they weren't made any more.

The danger points are actually getting the case off, with the bluetooth aerial and pulling out the digitizer and LCD without breaking anything. Also I don't have a heat gun I could probably give it a good go, but couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't break it

Your phone will play MP3s. It does not when the cover is closed on the new one, which makes it useless when listening on the move. The headphone socket on my old phone (which still gets some use) never worked anyway. I also like to hear things without being interrupted by phone notifications. I also really like mp3 players. They feel futuristic. -Ralph

Apple only make the bigger Touch and Sony do a couple, but fir the most part it's cheap crap ones. An other option is to buy a cheap new smartphone as you can still get a few vaguely small ones and just use it as an mp3 player. Put it in flight mode deactivate all the non essential stuff and get a suitable player from the play store. Its what I did buying a note 4 for use as a drawing tablet.

It was ebay that Billy acquired his nano from.
