Vote!
(It doesn't really matter to them as they were best friends and never seriously disagreed on stuff.)

Ooohhh I love ranks!
I think equal. Xaaron is much older, a leader before the war etc, but Optimus is The Prime. Both rank 10.

The leader of the Autobot High Council before the war was Traachon. Xaaron was just a council-member.

I've always seen Xaaron as a superior to Optimus Prime in Marvel.
In the original Transformers, Optimus was just a leader (a very good one) but not some God or worshipped figure that had an honour bestowed upon him like all present reiterations. He earned his reputation and Prime wasn't some title - just his name.

That's a good point, Hufferlover. Prime wasn't a title at first! It was just his name!
It only became a title after Hotrod came along, murdered Optimus, and stole the Creation Matrix.
So... maybe Xaaron IS higher ranked than Optimus Prime. Traachon, Xaaron and other civilian leading council types out-rank military leaders like Optimus Prime...?

Did anyone else just see Alpha Trion as the cartoons (inferior) Emirate Xaaron? (A bit like Buster & Spike until they changed their minds?) I did. But would like to see the two of them meet now they both seem to co-exist.

Hmmm, never really thought about that...
I think... I think I see them as occupying two separate, erm, offices. Xaaron is clearly some kind of civilian leader type, whereas Alpha Trion is like a... Head of State...?
Oh I dunno...

The modern thing of 'Prime' being a title gets right on my tits. It's like if in the real world there was a great military leader called Jessie Bloggs so then all future greats are called Bloggs. They must become the new Bloggs!
Such bollocks.

The thing with Rodimus - my first take on it (before all the rest of the stuff was layered on afterwards) was it was the merging of the souls of Optimus and Hot Rod to become one being - therefore Rodimus Prime. It made sense.
Making Prime an honorific title works elsewhere but not in the original G1 universe.

Head of State...? Oh I dunno... The only Alpha Trion I've got much time for is the Generations one from a couple of years back. That is mostly because he looks like he is Robot Conan - thief, pirate, wanderer, adventurer, king by his own manipulator (who also turns into a bad-ass giant lion because why should space-elf wizards be the ones having all the fun). Even then I tend to assume that his _name_ is Trion, with Alpha being his title. As to the whole "Prime" thing - it only really works if you establish it as a title before you establish it as someones name. If you've spent ages calling someone "Bob Roberts" and then he gets replaced and the new guy "Joe" is now "Joe Roberts" it just seems "off". Karl
