At that time, Louis XIV's French army was unbeatable, the preeminent European power. Marching on Vienna- if they hadn't been stopped the Hapsburgs would have been taken out of the war and that would have been that.
France would have won the War of the Spanish Succession, the most significant geopolitical event of the time (aristocratically powered as it was), and, a hundred years later, when a truly All Powerful France lead by a certain Corsican genius, came to prominence... who knows what the history books would say today?
Makes you think- the European powers at the time of the French Revolution attacked France because they didn't want 'Those Ideals' spreading to their aristocratically lead regimes. The powerful feared losing their power to The Masses.
If France had won the War of the Spanish Succession, been in a stronger place to gain the upper hand in their 18th century rivalry with Britain, been in a stronger place to help the Americans, been in a stronger place to make sure the German nations were kept divided- what would the world look like today?
A second either way.
