I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think I'd be hyped were it not for the others. I'm hesitant to be judgmental without seeing it, but it feels like it's all spectacle, without the heart of the Guillermo del Toro films. Also, no Abe

I'll give it a go. Some of the movie was shot 10 minutes drive from where I live. The church is the same location used for Hot Fuzz. David Harbour also looks good as Hellboy.

My mom's not thrilled that it isn't ron perlman. She adores him, and really liked his hellboy movies (and she's not big on comicbook movies)

I saw it last night. I was not terribly impressed.
It was by no means terrible, but it's pretty much exactly what I thought. Wrapped up in flashy action and gore, lacking the typical emotional impact Hellboy needs to make his suffering and humor meaningful.
David Harbor was great, but he needed a better script and a director who understood the character better (Guillermo del Toro).

To be fair though, wouldn't most films be better if directed by Del Toro?
