It's Star Trek! Classic Star Trek. Kirk days it. I forget which exact episode, but it's always stuck on my mind ever since it was on a promotional clip-segment that was at the start of every Next Generation video that I was obsessed with watching at the time.

#Jealous
Phil would like left over pizza for breakfast but that would require left over pizza. And I have a teenager.
I presume Pizza Hut refused to Crunch it for you?

I don't understand the concept of leftover pizza. Surely that would involve... not eating all the pizza.
Does. Not. Compute.

The pizzas from Pizza Hut are extremely large so when we get them they are eaten over 2 days.

Before lockdown I bought lunch out. During lockdown I have not been buying lunch out, but in the later part of it I have been buying many breakfasts out as part of my daily walk, and haven't had to think about where to buy it from as there's just been the one bakery open for coffee and hot pastries - same staff throughout, with none of them going off sick, thankfully - clearly a small business with a small staff provides less likelihood of spreading than a big business. Now my dilemma is that several other local coffee and bakery outlets have opened, all with decent safety measures in place, and I'm torn between loyalty to the one that stayed open and the ones trying to make a go of it afresh. I thought Caffe Nero might tear me away from the bakery until I learnt they were using up the last of their pre-lockdown cakes and savouries, the supplier having gone bust. And there's Coffee #1, which I got a nice warm custard tart from this morning. And Greggs, which I'll probably go to for baguettes. But the other bakery remains the tops for fresh hot pastries. I wish safety and success to them all!

I would say stick with the one you have been using. I probably will for the most part, as they've built up such good will with me during lockdown, and their pastries are excellent, but I can't abandon Caffe Nero altogether as it's the same staff I knew by sight from pre-furlough and want them to keep their jobs. Plus, when we're allowed to sit down in cafes in Wales from 3 August (assuming infection rates don't rise between now and then) I'll want to spend some time sitting in there. I don't want to starve them of my custom in the meantime. Martin

This morning I am having breakfast and doing some work inside my local Caffè Nero. First day with indoor eating allowed in Wales. I have the entire place to myself.

A major alert has been declared in Greater Manchester and cases are rising. We are close to England's now number 2 hotspot. It'll be a long time before I can eat in anywhere again. -Ralph

My first drink was full price. Then evidently the 'Eat out to help out' programme kicked in, because my second drink was half-price, and they gave me the third for free, having decided that the first one should have also been half-price. So, er, thanks for that, tax-payers, though I was going to buy them all anyway.
Hope the scheme does actually encourage some people to eat/drink out who wouldn't have done so otherwise ('cos these shops and restaurants need all the support they can get). But if not, the Treasury is just subsidising the middle-class lifestyle of people like me.

With the infection rate in GM back where it was and further measures just in place as of Friday with high levels of community transmission it is not at all safe to dine in either where I am or where I am moving to. I therefore will not be taking part in 'Eat out to Help Out'. A shame. There is an Indian Restaurant we miss that does amazing curries but not risking death for a cheaper meal! They do a good quality takeaway anyway.

Government has finally released some data on why they imposed new conditions on GM last week. Basically we are nowhere near as bad as Leicester but they have learnt some lessons and going with easier lockdown measures but much earlier. As suspected though there are areas as 'bad' as GM that haven't bee subject to same measures. Coincidentally they seem to all be in the south.

But if not, the Treasury is just subsidising the middle-class lifestyle of people like me. Martin The NHS also needs all the support it can get too. Encouraging people to mingle is not helpful to that. The Government have made an absolute cock up of all this. The whole subsidised eating out thing is another symptom of this. It will be people like us who will benefit from it and not actually those who could benefit from some financial support. Plus I'm not sure how it fits into the anti-obesity drive.
