GODS OF PLANET BEAST 2. THE GOLDEN WORM GOD Allegiance: Unknown Function: God of golden sea worms First appearance: Right here "Glub glub glub." Image source: www.toyarchive.comThe Golden Worm God roams the ocean beds of Planet Beast, supposedly living on a diet of tiny sea worms, though it does also seem to spend a lot of its time sifting through the sunken wrecks of great air and naval battles of history, for what purpose no-one knows. The Golden Worm God has two giant golden sea worms growing out of its ears. Some foolish young Battle Beasts once suggested that they were not sea worms at all, but rather horns, and that the entity was actually a giant sheep's head, but the elders were quick to mock them, and asked what a giant sheep's head would be doing trundling about at the bottom of the ocean. The Golden Worm God discourages the curious from coming too close with twin underwater torpedo launchers.

Like the stories, I write them in my head while walking to/from work or the shops, or while looking out of the window on trains, etc. All I'm doing now is typing/polishing those thoughts.
Three more on the way today.

GOLDER THE FEROCIOUS TIGER Allegiance: Autobot/Avenger Function: Protector First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Fight! "I am Iron Tiger." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Golder the Ferocious Tiger and his partner, Sly Beafox, return to Planet Beast after a productive couple of months on the humans' homeworld Earth, during which time a young mutant, known to the public at large as the Iron Man of 2020, offered to upgrade Golder's combat armour along the lines of his own, to better enable the Battle Beast to protect his people from themselves and malevolent outside forces such as rogue Decepticons and other aliens and humans who would seek to control them for their own ends. As well as upgraded armour, Golder and Beafox bring with them the newly Matrixed Autobot, Red Phoenix the Blazing Eagle, and their first order of business has been to round up those Battle Beasts not intent on battling for fun until death, and establish a settlement to act as a safe haven, where they can enjoy a measure of peace under the protection of these formidable new arrivals. Abilities: Armed with a spiked club and the power of fire, Golder is a fighter to be reckoned with in his own right. But with his new 'Iron Tiger' armour he is almost invincible. At Golder's command, golden armour covers his exposed fur, making him completely bulletproof and enabling him to fly with the aid of repulsors in his hands and feet. He has a fully functional heads-up display in his helmet and a shoulder-mounted, computer-guided missile launcher with fire-and-forget capability. Golder uses his power of fire to charge his suit, so that it never runs low on power. Weaknesses: Golder's fire-charged armour cannot function underwater. Strength: 9 (6 without his armour) Intelligence: 7 Speed: 8 (6 without his armour) Endurance: 10 (7 without his armour) Rank: 6 Courage: 10 Firepower: 9 (6 without his armour) Skill: 8

GODS OF PLANET BEAST 3. THE TEARIN' TIGER HUNTER Allegiance: Autobot Function: Unplanned addition to the Beast God pantheon First appearance: Right here "Rowr!" Image source: www.toyarchive.comFrustrated at their fellow Battle Beasts' adoration of the clearly mechanical 'gods' of worm and carrot, Sly Beafox and Golder the Ferocious Tiger, aided by Red Phoenix the Blazing Eagle, constructed a similar autonomous vehicle, the Tearin' Tiger Hunter, in plain view, so that all the other Beasts could see that it was nothing more than gears and circuits, obeying the basic laws of engineering. Unfortunately, the simple-minded Beasts were so impressed by this feat that the majority voted immediately to worship it as a new deity.

SLY BEAFOX Allegiance: Autobot Function: Mayor of Beastbourne First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Fight! "This isn't going to be solved overnight." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Sly Beafox realised from an early age that she was different from the other Battle Beasts, in terms of the clarity with which she perceived the world around her. It quickly became apparent to her that all this battling for fun could only end in the destruction of their so-called 'civilisation'. Taking her cue from the Great Western Exodus of two decades earlier, she convinced her devoted partner, Golder the Ferocious Tiger, that they should seek help for their troubled people amongst the stars. Now, with a little Autobot and human support, she sees hope where before there was none. But it isn't going to be easy. Abilities: Sly Beafox possesses the standard powers of wood, and is skilled with her axe, but her greatest weapon is her wits, which are the sharpest on the planet. Weaknesses: The responsibility Sly Beafox feels for her child-like people weighs her down, particularly when she considers the secret origin of the Battle Beast race - a dark secret that she fears they are not yet ready to be told. Strength: 3 Intelligence: 10 Speed: 7 Endurance: 5 Rank: 7 Courage: 9 Firepower: 3 Skill: 9

POWER NOZZLE THE ANTIC ANTEATER Allegiance: N/A Function: Close-quarters combat First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "Get over here!" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Power Nozzle is one of the evil Battle Beasts created by the alien Xagra of Derut Four, using genetic material from three captured natives of Planet Beast (Blitzkrieg Devilbat, Crusty Crabhit and Web Slinger Deaspider) and a fresh selection of Earth animals, in Power Nozzle's case, the anteater, for the purposes of providing gladiatorial entertainment in Xagra's Murderpits. After suffering casualties in the course of training missions to Earth and Nebulos, Power Nozzle and the other survivors decided to abandon their money-driven creator and seek a new life, battling for fun on their own terms on Planet Beast. Power Nozzle prefers the live ants of Planet Beast to the ant-substitute served to him by Xagra. Abilities: Power Nozzle has a... unique fighting style. Either he sucks his opponents in towards him using the awesome suction power of his nose and then crushes them with the three-fingered grabber that replaces his left hand, or else he ensnares them by means of the three super-extending, whip-like pincer-claws of his bizarre hand-weapon, which lash out at Power Nozzle's command, similar to Unicronian antibodies, drawing his prey to him. He can also invoke the power of fire to shoot 800-degree flames from his nose over distances of up to 40 feet. Weaknesses: If Power Nozzle's opponent invokes the power of water when he is inhaling, there is a high possibility that he will drown. Strength: 7 Intelligence: 3 Speed: 3 Endurance: 7 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 6 Skill: 4

OCTILLION THE RED OCTOPUS Allegiance: N/A Function: Undersea terminator First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "Twenty thousand leagues under the sea is where you'll find death in the form of me." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Octillion the Red Octopus is permanently furious at life in general, and his creator, the alien Xagra, in particular, because he's supposedly an octopus... but he only has six limbs! How did that happen? The spiky bits on his shoulder armour can't disguise the fact that he has four arms and two legs, which adds up to neither eight nor an octillion (which is a billion billion billion). He should have been called Sixy the Hexopus. Because of his well-known grudge against the one who brought him into existence, Octillion was named as a prime suspect when, a few days after the surviving evil Battle Beasts ran away to Planet Beast (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater), Xagra was found dead in his office on Derut Four - murdered by entity or entities unknown. Abilities: Octillion can use his magic to control underwater currents. He can also spray black ink from his nose to blind his foes, allowing him to move in and finish them off with his harpoon, or crush them to death in his powerful tentacles. Weaknesses: His powers don't work well on land. If he spends too long above water and starts to dry out, he comes over all queasy and has to go and have a lie down on the sea bed to recuperate. Strength: 7 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 4 Endurance: 5 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 3 Skill: 5

POWERHOUSE SCOUT MOUSE Allegiance: N/A Function: Mighty danger mouse First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "Lemme at 'em! Lemme at 'em!" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Of the three evil Battle Beasts who went on a training mission to New York City, just one - Powerhouse Scout Mouse - returned. He is the only Battle Beast to have fought the Avengers and lived to tell the tale. Green Chameleon and Ultragas the Pew-Trid Skunk were no use whatsoever, but Powerhouse Scout Mouse wrestled Iron Man to the ground, defeated the Valkyrie in sword combat and drove off the Vision with a mighty spell. Or at least, that's the way he tells it. None of the other Battle Beasts were there to contradict him. Abilities: Powerhouse Scout Mouse is a woodmouse, so naturally he has been given the power of... fire. He can conjure up blasts of 250-degree flame, which he can shoot up to 20 feet at his opponents. He carries a not very sharp sword, and has a burrowing tool in place of his left hand. When his armour was constructed, there were a few spare pieces left over, so they suggested he slap one of them on his head and call it a brain-enhancer. It doesn't actually do anything, and he knows this, but it makes him feel good. Weaknesses: Water beats fire and drowns mice. Powerhouse Scout Mouse is also severely lacking in the strength and skill departments. Strength: 2 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 5 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 4 Skill: 3

KNIGHT OWL Allegiance: Decepticon Function: Evil genius First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "Tranquillity through domination." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Knight Owl is one of the evil Battle Beasts created by the late Xagra, son of Zabra, in his laboratories on Derut Four, and a new arrival on Planet Beast (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater). Unlike most of his fellows, who remain non-aligned in order to battle for fun, Knight Owl promptly declared himself to be a Decepticon, assigned himself a rank of 7 and offered his leadership services to the Decepticon harvester unit, Wood Beetle, and his resident sniper, Condorassin the Condor Assassin. To his delight, Wood Beetle replied, "Yeah, all right, then." Abilities: One Battle Beast (Hare Razing Rabbit Kid) has power over fire, wood and water, three Battle Beasts (Hornhead, Sledgehammer Elephant and Yellow Hunchback Camelus) have powers over two of those elements, and all the rest have power to invoke just one. All the rest, that is, except Knight Owl. He has none of those powers. Knight Owl can invoke the power of... air. His rubsign remains black because, he says, you can't see air. Many have scoffed at this, suggested that his powers are defective or that he's a Vrobian shape-shifter like Blitzkrieg Devilbat and not a Battle Beast at all. Then he invokes the power of air, summons up a tornado and sends his mockers flying into oblivion. Air can extinguish flame, topple trees and part the ocean waves. And if that fails, his armour incorporates a computer-guided missile harness, and he also carries a short, squat dagger, though in fairness it's largely ceremonial and not very practical for fighting. Weaknesses: Knight Owl's power of air only works at night, but so does Knight Owl, so that's not really a problem. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 9 Speed: 7 Endurance: 4 Rank: 7 Courage: 8 Firepower: 9 Skill: 8

ICKY IGUANAMONSTER Allegiance: Decepticon Function: Scary soldier First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "Sow the seeds of terror and triumph may follow." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Icky Iguanamonster fancies herself as the natural successor of the Decepticon Pretender, Iguanus, and, upon her arrival on Planet Beast with the other surviving evil Battle Beasts (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater), she had no hesitation in following Knight Owl's example and signing up with the Decepticon harvester unit, Wood Beetle. Abilities: Icky Iguanamonster invokes the power of wood to shower her enemies with a hail of sharp wooden splinters. Her thunderbolt sword can fell a tree with a single blow, bringing it down on the heads of her opponents. Weaknesses: Icky Iguanamonster sometimes forgets in the heat of battle that she is not in fact a Decepticon Pretender and cannot transform into anything. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 3 Speed: 2 Endurance: 7 Rank: 5 Courage: 10 Firepower: 3 Skill: 6

BROWN GYRO THE ARMOURED ARMADILLO Allegiance: N/A Function: Downhill attack First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "Rock'n'roll." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Brown Gyro battles for fun. She is resented by Icky Iguanamonster the wannabe-Transformer, because the Armoured Armadillo can transform, after a fashion, as she curls up into a ball. She is one of ten surviving evil Battle Beasts recently arrived on Planet Beast (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater). Abilities: Brown Gyro invokes the power of water to summon up a thick fog so that her enemies don't see her coming as she bounces down the hill towards them like a cherry tomato on a cocktail stick and bowls them over before unfurling and laying into them with her double scimitar. Brown Gyro is the most heavily armoured of all the Battle Beasts. Weaknesses: If the enemy holds the high ground, the best thing you can do is fling Brown Gyro at them using a trebuchet and hope for the best. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 3 Speed: 2 (7 rolling downhill) Endurance: 10 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 1 Skill: 7

SLASHER SEAHORSE THE JUNIOR DRAGON Allegiance: N/A Function: Aquatic charger First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Strike! "We shall fight on the beaches." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Slasher Seahorse is one of ten surviving evil Battle Beasts recently arrived on Planet Beast (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater). He carries fellow aquatic warriors into battle on his back. Having lost his original rider, Cutthroat Cuttledeep, on an ill-fated training mission to Earth, Slasher now emerges from the surf straddled by Octillion the harpoon-wielding Red Octopus. It's truly a sight to behold. Slasher is a suspect in the murder of the alien Xagra, on account of the message in blood discovered on the wall of the crime scene, which read, "Slasher woz here." Abilities: When his head is above water (obviously), Slasher Seahorse shoots 900-degree flames from his mouth up to 150 feet. He also carries a trident to hurl at his opponents, who are usually busy dodging whatever the guy on his back is throwing at them and thus unprepared for a follow-up attack from his steed. Weaknesses: If you splash him in the face while he's breathing fire, Slasher Seahorse will have a violent coughing fit and throw his rider into the sea. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 2 Speed: 5 Endurance: 6 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 6 Skill: 4

TANGLIN' PANGOLIN Allegiance: N/A Function: Very mean fighter First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Stylor's Staff "Are you anglin' for a wranglin'?" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Tanglin' Pangolin battles for fun and likes seeing pain being inflicted on those around him. On his team's ill-fated training mission to Nebulos he found the sight of the Autobot Chromedome taking down his pals, Crooked Crowmax, Harrier Hawk the Eagle Killer and Shield Dragon the Leapin' Lizard, hilariously funny. Shortly afterwards, around the time he and the surviving evil Battle Beasts made the collective decision to abandon their creator, Xagra, and travel to Planet Beast, a laboratory technician heard Tanglin' Pangolin saying, "Let's kill that bossy, oversized, long-tailed git." He is therefore high on the list of suspects for Xagra's subsequent murder. Abilities: Tanglin' Pangolin is almost as heavily armoured as his close relative, Brown Gyro the Armoured Armadillo, and can perform similar rolling attacks when curled into a ball, but his skin isn't quite as thick as hers, so he has to be a little more cautious as to who or what he crashes himself into. Tanglin' Pangolin invokes the power of wood to cause sharp stakes to rise up from the ground and impale his victims. He also has a throwing spear and an extendable slashing claw in place of his left hand. All in all, he's a nasty piece of work. Weaknesses: Strong sunlight makes Tanglin' Pangolin overheat. Any kind of fire attack upon him is likely to prove fatal. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 2 (6 rolling downhill) Endurance: 9 Rank: N/A Courage: 9 Firepower: 3 Skill: 7

KING COBRANDER Allegiance: N/A Function: Kobra Commander First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Stylor's Staff "Obey me!" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Perhaps because of his name, King Cobrander has delusions of power, and, despite having only just arrived with the other evil Battle Beasts (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater), he believes himself destined to rule over Planet Beast. He plans to use his strange mental powers to subjugate the world one Battle Beast at a time. Abilities: King Cobrander invokes the power of wood to conjure up defensive wooden barriers between himself and his foes to slow them down while he fixes them with his hypnotic gaze and brings them under his control. The weapon he carries is... I don't know what it is. Don't let him bite you - his venom will kill you dead. Weaknesses: King Cobrander can't stand fire. He can only hold one person in thrall at a time, so, as king, he only ever has one obedient subject. But it could be your turn next! Strength: 4 Intelligence: 6 Speed: 4 Endurance: 4 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 1 Skill: 8

TARSIER TYRANT DEMONKEY Allegiance: N/A Function: Crazy prophet of doom First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Stylor's Staff "I'm a New Man! HAHAHAHAHAAA!" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: When he arrived on Planet Beast with the other evil Battle Beasts (see the entry on Power Nozzle the Antic Anteater), Tarsier Tyrant Demonkey didn't have glowing yellow eyes, and both his hands were the same size. He was very intelligent and civilised, by Battle Beast standards. But he was a curious little monkey, and insisted on exploring the forbidden zones, leaping crevasses that were not meant to be leaped, climbing down into ravines that were not meant to be scaled. For weeks, his fellows heard nothing from him and assumed him to be dead. Then one dark night he returned, looking like this, laughing maniacally, babbling about something called a 'High Evolutionary' and then whispering, "He's on the move..." Being Battle Beasts, this kind of unwanted behaviour leads his listeners to punch him to the ground and stomp on him until he quietens down. Abilities: Tarsier Tyrant Demonkey is an excellent climber and leaper, and a very competent sword fighter. He invokes the power of freezing water to make everything around him, including himself, highly slippery, so that he is almost impossible to hold onto, and any flat surfaces become extremely hazardous underfoot. Weaknesses: Whatever secrets he discovered in the deep, dark, forbidden places of Planet Beast were obviously so horrible and disturbing that they have affected Tarsier Tyrant Demonkey's brain. It is not clear whether he will ever recover his wits. Strength: 3 Intelligence: 5 Speed: 6 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 9 Firepower: 1 Skill: 7

SHIELD BATTLER-6 Allegiance: N/A Sub-group: Laser Beasts Function: Henchbeasts First appearance: Right here "Justice will be served." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: The Shield Battler-6 don't battle for fun - they battle on command. And the first and last command of their master and creator, Xagra, third son of Zabra, was to protect him from his enemies. But the team was activated too late to save Xagra from being murdered, presumably by one of his ten surviving experimental evil Battle Beasts, who the Shield Battler-6 learnt had just left Derut Four, the world of their birth, for a new life on Planet Beast, the home of their ancestors, the original Battle Beasts. Without hesitation, the Shield Battler-6 resolved to complete their mission in the only way possible - by finding Xagra's killer or killers, and serving justice upon his, her or their heads. These six lethal new Laser Beasts - Mantofrenzy, Killerhound, Fighthorn, Grencats, Battlefennec, and their leader, Stronghurricane - have now landed on Planet Beast, and they're out for blood. Abilities: Grencats and Stronghurricane invoke the power of fire, Fighthorn and Mantofrenzy the power of wood, and Battlefennec and Killerhound the power of water. All six Shield Battlers wield galva-spectral, cosmo-pulse laser rifles, which they charge up using their magic. They also carry blast-proof shields bearing their individual coats of arms, which they can mount on powered skateboards that they refer to as their 'chariots'. Weaknesses: The Shield Battler-6 genuinely want to find out who killed their master, and so are reluctant to go in all guns blazing until they've learnt all there is to learn about their target. This can be a disadvantage on Planet Beast, whose natives are prone to attack with as little as 4 seconds of warning, just for fun. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 6 Speed: 6 Endurance: 8 Teamwork/co-operation: 7 Courage: 10 Firepower: 9 Skill: 7 MUSKY OXHORN Allegiance: N/A Function: Good-for-nothing layabout First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Fight! "Coming, dear!" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Musky Oxhorn likes nothing better than to put his feet up with a pint, surrounded by his mates, to watch a good solid game of Battle Ball. Unfortunately, his other half is Joan Bur-Cow, enforcer of the rules, and the Bodacious Bovine has a long list of special rules just for Musky Oxhorn. When his drinking buddies tease him for being so under-the-thumb, his mournful response is, "What can I do? She's wood and I'm water!" After going AWOL to Derut Four to watch the 2019 Galaxy Kombat tournament with his friends, and returning weeks later with a planet-sized hangover, Musky Oxhorn placated his good woman with a promise of a weekend break in the rule-abiding coastal resort town of Beastbourne. Abilities: Musky Oxhorn can invoke the power of water to give his opponent a bucket of ice-cold water full in the face. He is also very strong, and wields a sword, which, unlike the weapons of many of his fellow Battle Beasts, is a very normal, sensible shape, despite being somewhat on the large side. Weaknesses: Musky Oxhorn is lazy, and, although not a coward, would much rather watch a fight than take part in one. Strength: 8 Intelligence: 2 Speed: 3 Endurance: 6 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 2 Skill: 3 UDAN THE OSSIFIED ORANGUTAN Allegiance: N/A Function: Armourer First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Fight! "If my armour fails you in the heat of battle, at least you can take comfort in the knowledge that you got it cheap." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Udan the Ossified Orangutan is Musky Oxhorn's best friend and drinking buddy. He constructs and repairs the armour of non-aligned Battle Beasts in return for animal crackers. His spear is razor-sharp, and with its aid he used to keep himself clean-shaven, until one day, after a hard night's drinking, his spear slipped and he cut off his arm. He'll tell you he lost it in battle, and that you should have seen the other guy, but from that day forward he's let his hair grow long. Udan and Baboon the Manic Mandrill convinced Musky Oxhorn, Dream Eater the Torrential Tapir and Earthhog the Ardent Aardvark to travel to Derut Four to watch Sledgehammer Elephant and his pals fight in the 2019 Galaxy Kombat tournament. Five made the trip out, but after it was over they got into a bar fight with the Decepticon Micromaster Sports Car Patrol, who had been there to support the robot Lazorbique, and only four of them made it back to Planet Beast. They spent the return journey drinking to the memory of Earthhog the Ardent Aardvark, regardless of the fact that he was an obnoxious pillock. Abilities: Udan is a skilled metalworker. Even when he was down to one arm, he managed to build himself a new one, and he thinks it's rather good. He uses the power of fire to fuel the furnaces in his forge. In his spare time, his hobbies include battling for fun, and he's a tough and skilful opponent. He also has a very sharp spear. Weaknesses: Udan likes to swing through the trees, but his armour is very heavy, especially with his cyborg arm, and the branches frequently fail to bear his weight. Strength: 7 Intelligence: 5 Speed: 3 Endurance: 8 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 3 Skill: 7 BABOON THE MANIC MANDRILL Allegiance: N/A Function: Landlady of the Worm and Carrot First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Fight! "Take it outside." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Baboon the Manic Mandrill runs the Worm and Carrot pub, about a day's journey from the coastal resort town of Beastbourne. Her regulars include Musky Oxhorn and Udan the Ossified Orangutan, and they also counted Earthhog the Ardent Aardvark amongst their number until that unfortunate bar fight on Derut Four (see the entry on Udan the Ossified Orangutan). Abilities: Baboon invokes the power of wood to evict unruly drinkers from her bar with a two-by-four. She never starts a fight inside, but, once it's outside, she's usually the one to finish it - with her spear. Weaknesses: Her pub is made of wood and catches fire easily. It has burnt to the ground many times. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 5 Speed: 4 Endurance: 7 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 2 Skill: 7

DREAM EATER THE TORRENTIAL TAPIR Allegiance: N/A Function: Traitor General First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Fight! "Trust me - I've got your back." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: As far as the other Battle Beasts are concerned, Dream Eater the Torrential Tapir is a reluctant fighter who aspires to nothing more than to spend the rest of his days drinking in the Worm and Carrot and watching violent sports. They misjudge him at their peril. He spends time in social settings because that's where he can hear the gossip and sift the valuable intelligence from the verbal dross. He observes combat in order to learn strengths and weaknesses. You wouldn't know it from his behaviour, but alcohol has absolutely no effect on his mental faculties. He knows who murdered Xagra, son of Zabra. He knows that the bar fight that resulted in the death of Earthhog the Ardent Aardvark was no mere accident. He knows who Mr Johnson is, and what he wants. And he intends to help him get it. Abilities: Dream Eater invokes the power of water to make it rain. Not heavily, nor for long enough to cause a flood - just a light shower for a few minutes. He is therefore considered pretty harmless. Nothing could be further from the truth. He is a cunning schemer and a skilled swordsman. His left hand replacement is a pair of secateurs that can cut through any cable, chain or padlock. And he has powerful friends. Weaknesses: Dream Eater has the weakest magic of all the Battle Beasts. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 8 Speed: 2 Endurance: 5 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 2 Skill: 9 PUGNACIOUS PENGUINIS Allegiance: N/A Function: Superhero First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Fortress Scorponok "I am Pugnacious Penguinis, a Battle Beast. I battle for fun. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft a magic sword I'd recently found in the wreckage of a crashed spaceship, and said, 'I have the power!' I became He-Penguin, the most powerful penguin in the universe! Only three others share this secret - my friends, Dog Hunter the Pixelated Pointer, Killer Koala Gray and Mingo Kid the Frenzied Flamingo. Oh, and Mingo Kid told Duckbill Diver, who told Little Serow the Fleet-Footed Antelope, and now I'm telling you. Actually, it's not so much a secret as a little-known piece of trivia. Together, my friends and I roam around looking for fights, preferably with bad guys, though we're not really that fussy." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Pugnacious Penguinis is one of a number of Battle Beasts who ventured into space in recent years and found their way to the wandering robot planet of Cybertron. Sifting through the wreckage of a giant red spacecraft in the shape of a skull, Pugnacious Penguinis happened upon a sword, which took his fancy. After a cyborg cried, "It can't be... But it is! The Eternian Power Sword!" just prior to being roasted to death, Pugnacious Penguinis began experimenting with his new toy. First it gave him a tan. Then it gave him brown furry pants. But best of all, it gave him super-strength! After beating up a few Transformers, Pugnacious Penguinis decided to part company with his friends and return alone to Planet Beast, to test his powers against great Battle Beast fighters such as Sledgehammer Elephant and Yellow Hunchback Camelus. Abilities: On land, Pugnacious Penguinis can invoke the power of fire and conjure up blasts of 1,000-degree flame, which he can shoot up to 25 feet at his opponents. Underwater, he is as fast as a torpedo and swift to strike with his mighty spear. And then he has the Power Sword, which turns him into He-Penguin, the most powerful penguin in the universe. Weaknesses: Even as He-Penguin, Pugnacious Penguinis is very slow on land. Strength: 3 (10 as He-Penguin) Intelligence: 4 Speed: 2 (9 in water) Endurance: 3 (10 as He-Penguin) Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 6 Skill: 5 DARK DRAGOON RACCOON Allegiance: N/A Function: Highwayman First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "Stand and deliver, your money or a fight." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Dark Dragoon Raccoon is one of a number of Battle Beasts from Planet Beast who took a wrong turning at the K'Tor wormhole cluster when journeying to Derut Four in 2019 and ended up on Cybertron, home planet of the Transformers. Unlike some of his compatriots, he has decided to stick around, as it appears to him to be a good spot for a fight or three. Dragoons are mounted cavalry, and Dark Dragoon Raccoon is no exception, as he rides into combat on the back of Jungaroo the Kickback Kangaroo. Together they haunt the outskirts of Iacon, waylaying unsuspecting travellers heading into or out of Autobot City and challenging them to battle for fun and/or hand over all their worldly possessions. Abilities: Dark Dragoon Raccoon invokes the power of fire to cause molten lava to erupt from the ground and bring vehicles to a panicked halt, ready for him to leap in and menace them with his Christmas-tree sword, on which he dangles the various knickknacks he has purloined from his previous victims. Their trophy value means more to Dark Dragoon Raccoon than their actual market worth. Weaknesses: Dark Dragoon Raccoon hates being compared to the more famous Rocket Raccoon from Halfworld in the Keystone Quadrant. If you bring up the comparison he will get angry and flustered and his combat performance will markedly decrease. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 5 Speed: 4 Endurance: 5 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 7 Skill: 7 JUNGAROO THE KICKBACK KANGAROO Allegiance: N/A Function: Kickboxer First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "G'day, 'bot." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Jungaroo the Kickback Kangaroo is the partner in crime of Dark Dragoon Raccoon, the pesky highwayman of outer Iacon. He battles for fun. Abilities: Jungaroo can leap 20 metres in a single bound and deliver punches and kicks that will cause even a Transformer to see stars. His battle armour includes four shoulder-mounted mini-rockets. He is an expert at bringing down his quarry with his combat boomerang. He has the power of wood, but we don't talk about that, as it doesn't work on Cybertron. Weaknesses: Apart from having no functional magical powers on the planet he now finds himself on, Jungaroo has no notable weaknesses. Strength: 7 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 6 Endurance: 7 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 5 Skill: 7

SQUIRE SQUIRREL THE FLYING ATTACKER Allegiance: N/A Function: Fire-fighter First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "If you strike a light, you're in for a fight." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Having arrived on Cybertron with Dark Dragoon Raccoon's merry band of misfits, Squire Squirrel has taken up residence in Iacon, building a nest high on one of the Celestial Spires with a 360-degree view out over Autobot City. Here he instinctively hoards away hex-nuts for winter, despite the twin facts that there are no seasons on Cybertron and hex-nuts are completely inedible. Squire Squirrel loathes fire, haunted by memories of his wood being burnt down when he was a youngster, and although he tolerates it when invoked by those fighting beside him, he will respond to any other occurrence of it with a swift watery downpour. If he sees a fire anywhere in Autobot City, he will usually have swooped down from his vantage point and extinguished it before the Micromaster Red Hot can get there, and be well into a fight with whoever he thinks started it by the time the emergency services have arrived on the scene. Abilities: Squire Squirrel doesn't actually have wings of his own, but possesses an armoured flight-suit with jet pack and glider wings that enable him to soar across the skies at up to 450 miles per hour. He can invoke deluges of water sufficient to put out almost any fire and is a skilled combatant with his squirrel-tail scimitar. Weaknesses: Squire Squirrel comes over all misty-eyed at the memory of the forests back home on Planet Beast, but is reluctant to return there as he finds the frequent fires caused by Battle Beasts fighting simply too upsetting. For now, he prefers to remain on Cybertron where there are no trees to become emotionally attached to. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 5 Speed: 8 Endurance: 4 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 4 Skill: 7 RUN AMUCK SMILEDUCK Allegiance: N/A Function: Quack attack First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "A quack and a smack and you're flat on your back." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Run Amuck Smileduck is a Battle Beast of irrepressible high spirits, finding almost anything that happens to or around her hilariously funny. She quacks with laughter and also talks to herself in a series of quiet quacks, though she is capable of normal speech when necessary. Having arrived on Cybertron with Dark Dragoon Raccoon and his crew, she roams the great canals, reservoirs and aqueducts of Iacon, which are patrolled by the Autobot Micromasters, Power Run, Seawatch and Strikedown, challenging them to fights at every opportunity. Abilities: Run Amuck Smileduck can invoke the power of fire and conjure up blasts of 1,000-degree flame, which she can shoot up to 35 feet at her opponents. She can fly at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour. She carries a missile rifle that doubles as a hand-held melee weapon. Her left hand is a... no... I got nothing. Weaknesses: Run Amuck Smileduck takes nothing seriously, and if she ever gets into real trouble it is unlikely anyone will take her seriously and come to her aid. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 7 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 7 Skill: 6 UNDERGROUND THE MINER MOLE Allegiance: N/A Function: Tunnel warfare First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "Make good use of the things that you find." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Underground the Miner Mole wombles free through the tunnel network beneath Iacon, going into places where even Micromasters are unable to squeeze and collecting interesting items of bric-a-brac with his litter-picker claw. Some of the things that he finds have historical or cultural value, and these he sells or trades to Autobot City's Museum of Cybertronian History. Others are just bits of rubbish that the everyday folk have left behind, as they do, when picnicking in pitch-black Sharkticon-infested sewers deep beneath the planet's surface. Abilities: Underground the Miner Mole can invoke the power of water to flush out the tunnels ahead of him, and sweep away any enemy attackers. He carries a missile rifle that doubles as a hand-held melee weapon. He also has a blinding flashlight on his forehead. Weaknesses: Underground the Miner Mole is slow and weak. Consequently, he doesn't find battling all that much fun, as he usually cops the worst of it. He's allergic to wood, but there's very little of that on the planet Cybertron. And he's very short-sighted. Strength: 3 Intelligence: 7 Speed: 3 Endurance: 4 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 6 Skill: 7 WOLFGANG WALRUS SEA IRON Allegiance: N/A Function: Idiot First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "Ow." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Wolfgang Walrus Sea Iron's grandmother was one of the Battle Beasts encountered by the first Decepticon scouting mission to Planet Beast, and, like the legendary Killer Carpfish and Sawtooth Badshark and the predecessors of Blitzkrieg Devilbat, Hornhead, Icky Iguanamonster and the Kickbacks, she is presumed to have inspired the design of a Decepticon Pretender shell, only this one was stolen by the Autobots. (Goodness knows what they were thinking.) Now her grandson, Wolfgang Walrus, returns to Planet Beast in a state of discomfort and humiliation after his ill-fated trip to Cybertron, where he asked Jungaroo the Kickback Kangaroo to teach him how to punch a Transformer. Jungaroo punched the Autobot Micromaster Roadburner and knocked him unconscious. Wolfgang Walrus punched Roadburner's partner, Wheel Blaze, and broke every bone in his left hand. The Autobot medic Fixit tried to help, but was unable to do anything for him. Abilities: Wolfgang Walrus has a harpoon gun, but, unfortunately, it requires two good hands to use it effectively. He can also conjure up puddles that allow him to kick water at his enemies. Weaknesses: His left hand is broken. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 1 Speed: 3 (6 in water) Endurance: 4 Rank: N/A Courage: 9 Firepower: 4 Skill: 2 STRONG HUMONGOUS HIPPO Allegiance: N/A Function: Juggler First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "Mud, mud, glorious mud..." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Soon after arriving in Autobot City with Dark Dragoon Raccoon and the rest of his crew, Strong Humongous Hippo heard about the Cosmic Carnival, and pestered Overload, the Micromaster troop transport pilot, until he agreed to take him out there. Hippo loved the Carnival, and, when he showed them his fire-axe act, they reciprocated the love and offered him a contract. Abilities: Strong Humongous Hippo is one of the strongest and toughest Battle Beasts. He can invoke the power of fire to light up his tomahawks, and he's a first-class juggler. Weaknesses: Strong Humongous Hippo is one of the slowest Battle Beasts. He gets overheated when juggling fire-axes, and insists on having a cooling mud bath standing ready for him in his dressing room. Strength: 9 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 2 Endurance: 9 Rank: N/A Courage: 9 Firepower: 5 Skill: 6 MAJOR WAVEMOOSE Allegiance: N/A Function: Forest creation First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "Let's make this battleground interesting." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Dismayed at the lack of vegetation on the Transformers' homeworld of Cybertron, Major Wavemoose and his friends Beavop the Eager Beaver and Wolfgang Walrus Sea Iron hitched a lift out to Fortress Scorponok, where rumours said that another band of Battle Beasts had a working spaceship and were intending to return home to Planet Beast. Sure enough, Duckbill Diver, Little Serow the Fleet-Footed Antelope and Mingo Kid the Frenzied Flamingo, all of whom had the power of wood, which had proved to be completely useless on Cybertron, were making their final preparations for blast-off and happy to take on board the extra company. The return journey was long and perilous, but after several weeks they successfully touched down on the now-deserted western land mass of Planet Beast, and rather than proceed immediately to the populated southern continent from which they had all originally set out, Major Wavemoose proposed that they explore the historic battlefields of White Leo the Pirate Lion and Alligatron the Gruesome Gator, and learn something about how battling for fun was done in the olden days. His companions agreed. Abilities: When on Planet Beast, Major Wavemoose invokes the power of wood by waving his antlers and his rather cumbersome, tree-like melee weapon to cause mature trees to grow in seconds. In the space of a day he can turn an empty field into a rich woodland. Weaknesses: If he's not careful, the forests he grows become so dense that he catches his antlers and melee weapon in their branches when moving through the undergrowth. Fortunately, his partner Beavop the Eager Beaver is usually there to thin out the trees and create a network of navigable woodland paths. Strength: 6 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 5 Endurance: 6 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 2 Skill: 7 BULLORN THE BLUDGEONLY BULLDOG Allegiance: Cameron Space Control Function: Space Marine First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "What just happened?" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Bullorn the Bludgeonly Bulldog lay in a pool of blood on the Terbium Plains of the planet Cybertron... dead. About him lay the burning wreckage of two minor Zoids. It had been a good ending. A passing Cameron star-fighter saw him, changed course and landed. Out stepped a Rigellian Recorder and a dark-haired Circuit-Breaker. "Life-signs negative," observed the Recorder. "A perfect test subject for the regenerator," said the human. "Let's get him inside." They carried him on board. Abilities: After being brought back to life by stolen alien technology, Bullorn the Bludgeonly Bulldog showed his canine loyalty by refusing to leave the company of his unlooked-for saviours, and was granted provisional membership of the Cameron Space Marines. As such, his armour has been upgraded with Circuit-Breaker technology. If he runs into hostile Zoids again, they will be in for a shock, literally. He still has the power to invoke fire and cause combustible fuels to spontaneously ignite, but he can also now make electronics short-circuit, and has a limited protective electromagnetic field. His missile rifle doubles as a walking stick. Weaknesses: Bludgeonly Bulldog is tenacious and inflexible, unwilling to alter course even when faced with materially changed circumstances. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 6 Speed: 4 Endurance: 6 (9 with force-field) Rank: 5 Courage: 10 Firepower: 6 (8 with armour upgrade) Skill: 7 BEAVOP THE EAGER BEAVER Allegiance: N/A Function: Woodland management First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Battle Beasts Roll! "Dam it." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: When Beavop's band of wayward travellers landed on the western land mass of Planet Beast (see the entry on Major Wavemoose), they found a land in ruins - a burnt-out dwelling that had, decades ago, been the home of Yellow Rubberneck Giraffe, a flattened village where once had lived Grizzly Battle Bear and Rocky Rhino Graysharp, the wreckage of a treehouse that had been built by Bonga the Gargantuan Gorilla, and the remains of Sir Sire Bluehorse's castle. Worst of all, the forest that had once provided safe refuge to Hedgehog the Prickly Porcupine was now a scorched wasteland. While their companions explored, Beavop and Major Wavemoose went to work setting the landscape to rights. Abilities: Beavop the Eager Beaver invokes the power of water to make new streams and rivers run through the forests created by his partner, Major Wavemoose. He uses his serrated saw to coppice trees and build dams, fences, shelters and defensive fortifications. In his spare time, he battles for fun. Weaknesses: Beavop is a perfectionist. He doesn't know when to call it a day and move on to his next project. The best way of diverting his attention away from a finished work is to challenge him to a fight, let him win and then point him to his next assignment. Strength: 5 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 4 (7 in water) Endurance: 6 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 3 Skill: 7

DOG HUNTER THE PIXELATED POINTER Allegiance: N/A Function: Piano-playing pyromaniac First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Fortress Scorponok "Where there's me, there's fire." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Two ships from Planet Beast set down on Cybertron near the Manganese Mountains to ask a stranger for directions, having lost sight of Dark Dragoon Raccoon's vessel, which they were supposed to be following. The crews were promptly set upon by the last of the Eternian Evil Warriors, and many of them were killed. Dog Hunter's comrades, Black Jaguar-Panther, Slo the Slowpoke Sloth and Strong Panzer Panda, died in the final showdown with the last of their enemies, Trap Jaw the cyborg, as the Battle Beasts helped the Decepticon Sixshot take back control of Fortress Scorponok. Only six were left. One of them, Pugnacious Penguinis, took one of their ships back to Planet Beast in order to test his new fighting prowess back home, and another three soon followed on the remaining ship, fed up with being unable to invoke the power of wood on a planet made of metal. Only Dog Hunter and his friend, Killer Koala Gray, remained on Cybertron. In return for them using their powers of fire and water to fix Fortress Scorponok's central heating system, Sixshot gave them a lift to Autobot City. Abilities: Dog Hunter has the most powerful fire magic of all the Battle Beasts. He can conjure up blasts of 2,000-degree flame, which he can shoot up to 200 feet at his opponents. He is also the Battle Beasts' most proficient tracker, having the keenest sense of smell on Planet Beast, and he is a skilled fighter with his bayonet. Weaknesses: As an incorrigible arsonist, Dog Hunter is Squire Squirrel's nemesis. Now they are both based in Iacon, conflict is inevitable, and, as we all know, water beats fire. Smoke from Dog Hunter's own fire can temporarily impair his sense of smell. Strength: 5 Intelligence: 6 Speed: 6 Endurance: 5 Rank: N/A Courage: 10 Firepower: 8 Skill: 7

KILLER KOALA GRAY Allegiance: N/A Function: Referee First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Fortress Scorponok "What's that, sonny? Speak up! You want to rattle for a bun?" Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Killer Koala Gray (or Graham, to give him his full name) is a fully certified Battle Beast referee, with a licence to adjudicate on any disputes arising when two or more of his compatriots battle for fun. He lost his left ear when a Battle Beast became unhappy with one of his decisions. After using his battle-axe to confirm his ruling upon the head of the now-deceased fighter, the Killer Koala arranged to have his ear replaced by an inconspicuous state-of-the-art hearing aid. Abilities: Killer Koala Gray can invoke the power of water to create icicles with which to impale his opponents. He also wields a mean battle-axe. Weaknesses: With the death of Slo the Slowpoke Sloth, Killer Koala Graham is the slowest surviving Battle Beast, as well as being one of the weakest. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 5 Speed: 1 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 9 Firepower: 3 Skill: 4 DUCKBILL DIVER Allegiance: N/A Function: Fighting on air, land and sea First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Fortress Scorponok "Now that's what I call a splashdown." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Duckbill Diver is one of the six Battle Beasts to land on the abandoned western land mass of Planet Beast in the year 2020. Although insisting that he is a great advocate in favour of battling for fun, the truth is he is quite happy to explore on his own for a bit, away from his fellow Battle Beasts. He currently wanders the shoreline of the western continent, collecting pieces of charred armour that are all that remains of the legendary Horny Toad Drillfrog. Abilities: Duckbill Diver can fly, swim and walk on land. He can invoke the power of wood to conjure up explosions of sawdust that blind his enemies and hide his position. He carries a fishing spear and wears a mask and snorkel. Weaknesses: Although Duckbill Diver can fly, swim and walk on land, he does none of those things very well, in part due to his stupidly large left hand. His sawdust explosions are highly flammable. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 3 Speed: 5 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 2 Skill: 3 LITTLE SEROW THE FLEET-FOOTED ANTELOPE Allegiance: N/A Function: Hit and run First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Fortress Scorponok "Nobody can rope the fleet-footed antelope." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: Little Serow the Fleet-Footed Antelope is one of the six Battle Beasts to land on the abandoned western land mass of Planet Beast in the year 2020. While Major Wavemoose and Beavop the Eager Beaver set about restoring the ravaged landscape, Little Serow has made a home for himself in the grasslands where are buried notorious villains such as Alligatron the Gruesome Gator and Hardtop Tortoise the Black Turtle. Abilities: Little Serow is the fastest Battle Beast on land. He carries a musket with bayonet attachment and can invoke the power of wood to conjure up obstacles to trip up anyone who is chasing or being chased by him. Weaknesses: Once he has lost the element of surprise, Little Serow finds himself at a distinct disadvantage when battling most foes. Strength: 4 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 8 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 9 Firepower: 4 Skill: 4 MINGO KID THE FRENZIED FLAMINGO Allegiance: N/A Function: Bombardier bird First appearance: Characters from the 1987 Toy Range: Fortress Scorponok "Think pink." Image source: www.toyarchive.comProfile: One of the six Battle Beasts to land on the abandoned western land mass of Planet Beast in the year 2020, Mingo Kid the Frenzied Flamingo flew inland over the dunes where once lived the evil Triple Threat Snakebomb and the plains where once hunted the controversial White Leo, also called the Pirate Lion. There was ordinary animal life in abundance, but not one Battle Beast. Until... soaring so high as to be indistinguishable from a normal bird, she passed over an ancient meteorite crater. And that's when she saw the blue and red energy bursts flashing across the ground in the twilight gloom, and ranks of identical Battle Beasts on the march. She didn't know it at the time, but she had stumbled across the secret location of Mr Johnson's Laser Beast clone army training camp. Abilities: Mingo Kid carries a reinforced steel lightning bolt and invokes the power of wood to cause tree roots to entangle her foes on the ground. She has considerately had handlebars screwed into her skull for the convenience of occasional passengers. Weaknesses: Once she has hurled her lightning bolt, it's gone unless and until she lands to retrieve it. Strength: 3 Intelligence: 4 Speed: 6 Endurance: 3 Rank: N/A Courage: 8 Firepower: 2 Skill: 6
