So, in the wee small hours this morning I noticed a distinct similarity between Ratchet and G2 Roadblock in terms of colour palette and feel (buzzsaw blade etc) and so have been struck with the idea of recasting the Bay cast if they had been released in 1997 instead of Machine Wars. Obviously there would be repainting of certain characters, but I've tried to avoid a few obvious ones where I could. Here's my take so far:
AUTOBOTS | OPTIMUS PRIME | CLENCH | JAZZ | TAILGATE | RATCHET | G2 ROADBLOCK | IRONHIDE | MACHINE WARS HOIST | BUMBLEBEE | ZAP/WINDBREAKER | DECEPTICONS | MEGATRON | SKYQUAKE | STARSCREAM | G2 DREADWIND | BARRICADE | RAGE (STORMTROOPERS) | BLACKOUT | POWERDIVE/ROTORSTORM | BONECRUSHER | IRONFIST | BRAWL | ARCHFORCE | SCORPONOK | SCORPULATOR/DOUBLE PUNCH | FRENZY | FISTFIGHT |

What would other people's picks be?

Um, Um, I can't think of anything. None of the Bayformers appears to have made an impact on me!

I might do some kind of print, or daft wee zine about this.
Maybe a flip book about Ravage 2099 - or what I thought that could be.

Ravage 2099? The Ravage of the future?

Yup, somehow Ravage ends up on Earth and revived in 2099...
I was an idiot!

Presumably he'll now be sporting many pouches? And his feet'll be even smaller than normal?

I'm sorry. I've kept quiet hoping that some future post might give the appropriate context (but then it descended into marvel jokes), but I don't understand this thread?
Are we recasting the movie with Euro G1/G2 characters, and calling it Machine Wars, or are we recreating the movie characters using hypothetical Euro G1/G2 characters?
Or are we reimagining Machine Wars with movie characters?

It didn't, at least not for me because I've reread it several times the past couple days, and still don't understand.
I was asking a question to help me understand so I could participate too.

Not trying to be rude here but saying I was struck with the idea of recasting the Bay cast as if they had been released in 1997 instead of Machine Wars is fairly self- explanatory.
Imagine if in 1997 we had the Bay film and those characters were released as toys and not Machine Wars.

I'm afraid I didn't fully get it - I think it must just be one of those times when you write something and know what you mean, but other people see multiple ways of interpreting it and aren't sure which meaning was intended. I assumed you meant suppose we needed toys in 1997 to populate the first Bay movie, without changing the script, and all we had to go with was existing moulds. So, for example, the toy for Bay Scorponok could be a repaint of Doublepunch or Scorpulator, etc. Is that right?

I'll have a go:
Imagine the toy line for the first Michael Bay film could only use existing pre-1997 moulds. Which toy moulds resemble which film characters closely enough to be a match?
Basically, rename some G2 toy moulds as characters they look a bit like from the 2007 film.

Not hypothetical repaint? Just straight up repurpose?

No, Andy said repainting was allowed.

I only have a hazy awareness of the G2 and Machine Wars toys, but I can do this with imagined Micromaster recolours. Optimus Prime - Powertrain Bumblebee - Blackjack Ironhide - Highjump Jazz - Skystalker Barricade - Stakeout Blackout - Blazemaster Bonecrusher - Growl Brawl - Bombshock Starscream - Nightflight Tons to choose from if you go beyond western G1: tfu.info/ID/Micromasters/index.htmAnd of course Skids & Mudflap from the second film would start off as a Micromaster combiner. Doing the whole thing as Micromasters would be a genius idea. Although maybe that would fit in the "Cyberverse" (the first Cyberverse, not the current one) part of the line and play pattern.
