Terrance's Doctor Who books provided the vital bridge for me between children's books and adult fiction, giving me something to read at c8 years old that I wanted to read. For that alone he has my undying gratitude, and I know many tell similar stories. To this day I probably have more books by Terrance Dicks on my shelves than any other author: a full run of his Target novels, plus The Making Of Doctor Who is boosted by his contributions to the later Virgin and BBC Books.
It's only later I saw his television stories: War Games, Horror of Fang Rock and Five Doctors all remain HUGE favourites. Plus there's his work on the Classic Serials to take into account too.
Never got to meet him, came very close when he was holding court in the Blue Boar in Albourne one visit and we didn't realise and elected not to go in to avoid the crowds. But like many fans I felt I knew him through the numerous interviews he did in DWM, and later on the DVDs which he also provided commentaries for.
RIP. Will be much missed.

A great loss.
Arguably did more to make young boys read than a good many others with his work.

I remember Albourne that day too. Never met Uncle Terry but we certainly spent a lot of time with his work.

Back home tonight so, slightly delayed, it's time for an Uncle Terrance Doctor Who. We've gone for The Five Doctors.
