I have voted for ones were autonomy is stripped rather than were physical power is acquired.

Has to be Space Dreadnought. A planet weapon. Conquer the Galaxy etc etc. Gotta be.
I assume it would have some kind of FTL capability, otherwise... conquering the galaxy would be very slow...

They are machines that live millions of years (at least). I'm not sure if they would need ftl.

But of course they would! It's no good conquering one chunk of the galaxy, tootling off at sub-light velocity to conquer another chunk, coming back to the first bit after a few thousand years, and they've freed themselves or sumat! It's just too slow! Maintaining a galactic-wide empire at sub-light speeds is is is RIDICULOUS!
What kind of a scientist are you?!?!

It would be interesting to understand a bit more about Megatron's original ambitions in the comic. Apparently they were ignorant of carbon-based life-forms before they crashed on Earth, so who exactly did Megatron think was out there in space, waiting for him to come and conquer them? Did he think there were other robots out there? If so, what made him so confident that they were all inferior to Cybertronians? What made him so confident that he could beat the entire Galaxy? Was he planning to exterminate other life-forms or enslave them? And then do what exactly? Or did he just not think that far ahead?

ANYWAY! YOU CANNOT ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN A GALAXY-WIDE EMPIRE WITHOUT F.T.L. TRAVEL!!!Shockprowl is partly right. Yes, it's been done in novels in a universe where _nobody_ had FTL travel. But I don't think it could be done in a universe where some of the people you're trying to conquer and rule _do_ have FTL and you don't. FTL travel does exist in the Marvel TF universe. And as a consequence, Cybertron would be ineffective as a Cosmic Dreadnought if it didn't have it. But Unicron clearly had it, so I don't see that it would be against the laws of TF-universe physics for Cybertron to have it. Martin

Thinking on the ftl/non-ftl thing I'm not sure if my ships having ftl drives reassures me when a Saturn-sized warship slowly enters my solar system under its own power with the intent to conquer me and suck my planet dry of resources.

I suppose, but after you've had FTL for a long time, will you still be dependent on a single planet? And won't your FTL scouts detect Cybertron coming decades, maybe centuries in advance?
The main problem I see with the Cosmic Dreadnought is, how does it maintain control of the Galaxy when it can only be in one place at a time? What does it do when the people running away from it split up and go off in a hundred different directions?

Cyberforms it into another cosmic Dreadnaught etc?

Takes the resources on the planet it is approaching unopposed? Cyberforms it into another cosmic Dreadnaught etc? If all you want are the resources of uninhabited planets, there are plenty out there. But if you're deliberately targeting inhabited planets, presumably you care about dominating other life-forms rather than just conquering lumps of rock. And I suggest it's hard to dominate someone who has FTL when you don't. If you don't have FTL and the rest of the Galaxy wants a thousand years without being bothered by you, they just all relocate to outside a 1,000-light-year radius of wherever you are, and leave you to it. This relocation can be nice and gradual for almost all concerned, since after your first act of aggression against a race possessing FTL, everyone will know all about you. Then they monitor your movements and keep clear. That's your best-case scenario. More realistic is they use their FTL technology to amass sufficient forces to rub you out. It shouldn't take much - attach FTL to a bunch of missiles and rocks and pelt you with them from a safe distance until you're a cloud of space dust. Martin
