Went to see Toyah do a two hour acoustic set peppered with personal anecdotes last night. Small 200 capacity venue. Think it was a warm up for a bigger tour in the spring. Excellent night, intimate atmosphere and some very funny stories.

1. Steel Panther - Wayward Sons: Panther good, Wayward Sons dull as dishwater, crowd terrible. I don't think I was in the best place mentally to get the most out of this, but the crowd really didn't help.

1. The Lounge Kittens: Proper good fun. Lots of singing, laughing, and even a bit of sadness as we said goodbye to one of my favourite groups. 2. Steel Panther - Wayward Sons

Goo Goo Dolls - No transformers soundtrack song. Boo! Otherwise a good show.
Back to the Future: The Musical - Really really good. For my taste the music could have been a bit more of the eras of the film. A couple of the 50s set numbers have a proper 50s sound to them, or at least Grease doing the 50s sound. The rest are okay. The 80s songs though sounded a bit generic to me. All the BTTF music you expect is there though.
On a technical level its kind of amazing. Scene changes look fantastic and the delorean does exactly what you'd hope but wouldnt expect because how would they pull it off on a stage.
Cast is brilliant. Marty Mcfly sounds eerily like Fox. George and Lorraine are perfect. Doc Brown is different but not so much that it doesnt feel like him.

I hope it’s not being premature, but I’ve bought tickets for my next planned gig.
In November.
Please let the bugger have gone by then....

In the absense of live things to go to (I think I was supposed to be seeing Paul Heaton tonight now that I think about it) Ive found myself with the urge to listen to a lot more live albums and bootlegs. Its not the same but it passes some time.
I just found a recording from an Elton Johns 2003 solo show. Its the same week as the one I saw. I'd like to say its bringing back good memories, but lots of other stuff was happening around the time and I dont have much memory of the show, beyond it being a really good it and it being one of the rare sunny ones at the KC. Still nice to listen to it.

Yeah, no, the gig is rescheduled for next August. Have also booked tickets for Pitchshifter in December 2021. I really hope that's allowing enough time!

There are always a couple of big open air events at the stately home up the road in August, a last night of the proms one and a high profile cover band. The bring a picnic sort of thing that draws in a few thousand. I was really surprised to read they're both still on this year, in about a fortnight. Apparently open air events are now allowed again?!

I guess you can socially distance at a picnic? I must confess I've quite lost track of the governments guidelines at this point.

I watched Gingers charity livestream last night. Good show, nice and homely.
Trying to not book shows too soon, given the way the government is treating the live music industry, but I am down for Skindred and Pitchshifter towards the end of the year.

There was a local music festival a short walk away yesterday. Leaned against a wall opposite and watched a bit.

Having a listen to the new Wildhearts album, 21st Century Love Songs, ahead of seeing them live tonight. Amazon took a while to sort out the ltd ed versions so this only arrived the other day. Fantastic - I'd read this is PHUQ inspired, but this is the best they've sounded for years. Great album.

Elton John has been pushed back to 2023
At least this one is for non covid reasons.
Saw School of Rock last week.
Not quite a gig, but at this rate maybe the closest I get to one this year. First time back in a fully full thing since Shatners thing 18 months ago. Wasnt totally comfortable, but eventually sort of got used to it.
The show was very good. Though replacing Jack Black might be the hardest job in show business. Aside from the talent thing he is also seems incredibly agile for a big chap which is really really hard to replicate.

Quite.
Have considered trying to get tickets for one of the shows next year and a refund on the 23 ones.

Managed to get out to Skindred this Saturday just gone. Had to fight through a massive anxiety spike to do so though, but the show itself was top. Not keen on how few people are wearing masks on buses and such now though.

Ive been to a gig. Its only taken 19 months since Goo Goo Dolls and almost exactly 18 months since originally scheduled. And half the singers were missing, but it was live music.
Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott - That was amazing, some how Ive never seen Paul Heaton/Beautiful South/House Martins. Till now. At least half of Carry on up the Charts got played along with The House Martins and late 90s big hits meaning it was a giant sing along. Never heard the back rows as vocal.
A bit weird on the duets with out Jacqui Abbott, but her solo ones performed by Paul Heaton were fantastic.

Post-Covid theatre visit number #2 tonight to see Jack Dee do stand-up. He was all right!
He sang a song about paracetamol.
I didn't take in the name of the young guy who did the warm-up. He was only on for 20 minutes - Jack for close to an hour and a half. I wore a mask, but most people didn't. In contrast to David Suchet a fortnight ago when the majority did.

Booked a ticket to the cinema to go and see Gorillaz live Song Machine concert. Could this be the future of live music?
I hope not, but it'll be a nice diversion.

Gorillaz: Song Machine; Live from Kong Studios It was a theatrical rerun of a streaming concert from this time last year, so I don't know if it counts as 'live', but it was a damn good show.

Two more shows down this week, which should see me done for the year.
Bossk on Sunday, and just home from The Wildhearts, which was sweaty, bouncy, joyous fun.

Not sure, I was feeling rough so missed the opening act.
Actually that was quite nice. In and out in under 2 hours.
