Does anyone have a copy of 2010: Odyssey Two by Arthur C Clarke? I need a page ref for a Uni essay* and I can't find my own copy. I'm looking for the page near the end where the 'ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS EXCEPT EUROPA' etc message appears. Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy anymore, as I got rid of it years ago. If I have a chance on Thursday I can head down to the library on my way back from work and see if I can get a copy from there.

(1985 pbk reprint)
p277 is Dave start5ing to dictate the msg to HAL p284 is the full msg at the start of chapter53 A Gift Of Worlds.
The msg in the book is "All these worlds are yours - except Europa. Attempt no landings there" IIRC they bolt something on the end in the film.
2010 and 2061 are 2 of my favorite books

The original version is indeed:-
"All these worlds are yours, except Europa. Attempt no landings there."
the film version is, as I recall:-
"All these worlds are yours, except Europa. Use them together, use them in peace."
Been a while since I've seen the film mind you so I could be misremembering.

Jings. Even though I was aware he was getting on in years that still comes as a shock. It is very much the case that the field has lost one of its true legends - a formative influence of considerable importance and a genuine elder statesman. I think I shall have to pull down "Rendezvous with Rama" or something from "Tales from the White Heart" to be read in memorium. Karl

Rereading 2010 right now. Sad but not unexpected at that great age.

Never mind science-fiction, what about science? This was the dude who first thought of having satellites in synchronous orbit to allow communication beyond the curvature of the Earth...

Indeed. A geosynchronous orbit is sometimes called a Clarke orbit.

Yep, great books all them. Not read 'em for years.
Loved the films to. I watched 2010 with excellent Roy Scheider over and over as a younger person. It just lit a fire in me for some reason.
