We don't have a thread for this?
You guys, it's so good. Just finished watching it. And yeah, it's taken a pandemic to make me sit and watch a TV series, but I am so glad I did.
No spoilers, obviously, but if you've been sleeping on this, stop and watch it. Devote a long weekend to it.
I don't normally gush about stuff, so... that's an idea of how highly I hold this.

I'm only up to the end of season three, and agreed. So good. I love Catra's decent into madness. I love Entrapta and Hordak's genuine friendship. I love the message that everyone is capable of becoming better versions of themselves. I love Scorpia. She's just... spectacular.

I was looking for a thread to post on thus last week as I watched season 5 last week (made a big event out of it - ordered pizza etc). Absolutely love this series and sad that it's now over although at least it was finished properly and to plan. I don't think there is a series I've seem where I am so emotionally attached to the characters. Guess it's a combination of the writing, music and of course the acting, which is the absolute best in an animated series I've heard. Lump in my throat show. Do watch it if you haven't already.

We have talked about this show already. Was it in the He-Man thread?
Surprised to hear it has finished already. That wasn't a long run!

Five seasons, technically. I think it did the thing where the first couple were split up from one though.
It told a complete story. I don't think they really needed more.

It would've if they had spread the seasons out like in olden days. Like with Voltron though the 'seasons' are just made up by having short breaks between batches of episodes rather than long periods of production. Just a different way of doing it.

I...I don't like seasons that aren't seasons. False advertising. Also: structurally pish.
(I comment in general, not about She-Ra: I only watched one episode)

But... there are four seasons in a year - spring, summer, autumn, winter. Why shouldn't a TV series have more than one season in a year, e.g. a summer season and a winter season?

I'm going off topic from She-Ra here and not commenting on that show...
What some streaming shows do is release blocks of episodes on one day that have been produced and call it a season. It's false advertising. It's a production block, not a season. I don't tend to like those shows as they have a very different structural feel than a show where a discreet number of episodes have been produced, designed and released as a 'season', ie a complete unit of a series. Episodes are often designed as a 'chunk' of a show rather than distinctive episodes with beginning, middle and end. I think shows produced and put out once a week are just much better made. The only 'drop in one go' streaming series I thought was any good was Jack Ryan. Otherwise, I find them tiresome, dull and boring.
This is of course just an opinion. The streaming style of 'seasons' dropping chunks of episodes at a time is very very popular so I am out of step with the general viewing public.

That was a comment to Martin. Martin says there are multiple seasons a year when we know from TV there is only one season per year.

So what you are really saying is She-Ra and Voltron got it right... and Star Trek didn't? No. Star Trek didn't get it wrong. It just chose to only release one season per year. That's a valid choice. It doesn't set a rule other shows have to follow. If the next Star Trek series shooses to release several episodes in the summer and several in the winter and call that two seasons, then that's fine too. What would be wrong would be to claim to release multiple _years_ in a single year. Theatre companies had summer seasons and winter seasons before Star Trek. Martin

We don't know from TV there can only be one per year, we only know from TV that one per year is an option which is favoured by some series. Martin

The She Ra seasons were all proper seasons - just two in the middle that were half the episodes of the others. But each one had a theme/arc and ended properly setting up the next.

Its the reason that season 2 of She Ra is the worst. It sort as works as a block, but feels weird and unsatisfactory. When watched with season 3 it becomes clear that they are really one season. Anyway the rest of the seasons were all released together and as everyone else has said they are great. And at 52 episodes its just about right.

I’m sad there are no toys but also glad because I would have gone to town on one of those characters, like just buying everything.

There was a She-Ra/Catra action figure twopack that was really limited. There was also a range of figures that occupied that weird half action figure, half fashion doll space that the DC Superhero Girls dolls did.

I'm surprised there haven't been any POP figures of these yet (but hope there will be).
And yes, I'd be buying most of the characters if they made proper (available) action figures - starting with Entrapta.

Yeah, I know about them, but if I'm not going out of my way to buy exclusive Transformers, then this stands no chance, really. Just mass release, decent little figures. I think companies got burned by that last Thundercats relaunch and are now a lot more risk averse, which is a shame.

I think it has more to do with action girl shows have had difficulty finding a toy market for it's target audience. Similar niche toy lines (DC Superhero Girls, Marvel Rising, Miraculous Ladybug) don't seem to be landing with their intended audience. These toys seem to do better with adult collectors of both gender. But general merchandise for these types of shows looks like it does better with little girls.
While She-Ra and the Princesses of Power seem to offer an even trickier deal. It does have an outlet for adult fans- MOTU Classics, which has carried the original She-Ra from the start. However, the fans Mattel listens to seem to be the ones who hate the show because it's different, intended for little girls, and doesn't sexualize the characters.
So I honestly think this mixure of things is why the limited offerings we've gotten have been focused to specific markets.
