Siegel heirs awarded copyright in Action Comics 1 A ruling which has come as something of a shock. I didn't expect the case to swing this way and figured Time Warner would win. As it stands they effectively now share the US copyright with the Siegels. Some more info here. Andy

It is intriquing. I have a feeling that the actual nitty-gritty of the ramifications are going to take a while to work through. However, the fact that the judge has ruled the way he has done is somewhat unexpected. I certainly wouldn't have called the outcome this way. It could be very interesting indeed - especially if it is the casein the long-run it could leave the Schuster and Siegel heirs owning large chunks of the copyright to Superman, but someone else owing some of the later additions (Luthor, Kryptonite, the ability to fly. General Zod).
This promises to be rather an interesting mess.

Indeed it does. It'd be interesting to see what comes of it over the months and years. Wonder what this means for the Superboy case as well?

Wonder what this means for the Superboy case as well? Andy Not sure to be honest. Whilst there are some similarities I believe the two cases have some strong material differences. I think they have only been linked as a matter of administrative ease. However, with the precedent now set it could colour the way that a judge looks at the case. It'll certainly be interesting to see how it plays out. Karl

I remember reading an interview with Morrison when he said that was one of his favourite barmy Silver Age issues, and he was determined to reference it in All Star. I was tickled pink when I got to that page.

I couldn't find a dedicated Superman thread....
Complex character to handle, I've heard.
Never read much Supes, but I enjoy the concept, and enjoy the character on the big screen.
What SUPERMAN stories are recommended?
What say you on the character?

All Star Superman - Morrison/Quitely - the best modern tale featuring the character
Superman: The Golden Age V1 - worth a look at the origins of the modern superhero

As you’ve been enjoying their Batman stories, there is a Loeb/Sale Superman series, Superman for All Seasons, but I haven’t read it.
People talk a lot about John Byrne‘s classic run. I’ve only read the first issue for free on ComiXology, but I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the collections they’re starting to release this year, I think from July.
The Superman storyline I most remember enjoying was Death of Superman / Reign of the Supermen. Lots of fun, but I was a teenager so I don’t know how well it has really held up!
Unlike most people, All Star left me a little cold. Like most Grant Morrison comics I found I liked the ideas more than I actually enjoyed reading it. I am in a tiny minority when it comes to my reaction to his work though, and it does come highly recommended!

Death/Funeral/Reign - do not hold up as well as you would hope, but I have a soft spot for them having read them at the time.
The Byrne run has not aged as well as it could have, the limited series Man of Steel is still good (Superman's definitive post-crisis origin for a decade or so), his best work is the little Lex Luthor tale - Metropolis, 500 miles. Also the Lex Luthor as evil business mogul was not his idea but Marv Wolfman's before he had him booted off the other Superman book at the time.
I would get the Alan Moore Superman trade - it has For The Man Who Has Everything and Whatever Happened To The Man From Tomorrow - probably the best pre-crisis Superman material. (Whatever is the last pre-Crisis Superman tale) and the art by Dave Gibbons on For the Man and Curt Swan on Whatever is gorgeous. It's a relatively small trade but a belter nevertheless.

All Star is shite: you can blaze through the whole lot in ten minutes. There's barely any reading to it. It is very very pretty to look at though.

Seconding Superman For All Seasons - that's a class comic.
Also: kinda Elseworlds but the Busiek/Immonen book Secret Identity is a fab take on the idea.
Mark Waid wrote a 'ground one' style comic in Birthright, which kind of informed the Man Of Steel movie, but, yknow, not sucking. Art by Lenil Francis Yu.
And there's another one like that: Superman: Secret Origin by Johns and Frank. I've not read that though.
None of these are the deep dives you'd get into by trying to read Death/Rein/Return etc.

I've read comics with Superman meeting He-Man, and I've read comics with He-Man meeting the Thundercats... and this week I had the misfortune to read comics with Thundercats meeting Battle of the Planets.
But I was not aware that Superman had met the Thundercats.
