Earth 2 was a lot of fun. Very good. Luthor: Man of Steel.... Lovely art. Gritty. Fascinating portrayal of Luthor and his motivations. And by exploring his motivations you see how he can believe that he isn't the bad guy, despite his actions dictating otherwise. The interaction between Lex and Bruce Wayne, praying on Wayne's own concerns over the power Superman possess, was very well done. But the then subsequent -and disappointingly short and unexplained- fight between Superman and Batman left me confused. Was this their first meeting? Surely it must have been? It just seemed a bit odd. Cool, 'cos we all love it when Superman and Batman fight, but.... It just felt a bit unesessary. Superfluous. The 'fight' didn't need to take place. But it was a superb story. Suddenly flooding the character of Lex Luthor with tremendous depth. Shades of grey. You really do -almost- begin to understand why Luthor does what he does, why he opposes Superman... until he starts killing people etc... Then it's like: HELLO!

I managed to secure from a very nice chap on eBay a beautiful hardcover deluxe edition of Superman: What ever happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
What a beautiful beautiful story. I had to do a couple of bits of research to understand one or two characters and events, but it's a tremendous story, presented in such a beautiful way. It will be the centrepiece of my Superman collection!
Really quite into Superman at the moment. Batman to still, of course, but Superman also. Is this what happens? Do you start off with Marvel when you're younger before finally graduating to DC when you're older?

No, you mainly stay with Marvel because it is vastly better but dip in and out of DC for the good bits. DC went to the dogs in the last decade or so with their obsession for being GRIM and GRITTY with DISMEMBERED LIMBS.
DO NOT READ IDENTITY CRISIS.
A good DC title I do urge you to track down, however, is WEDNESDAY COMICS. Loads of fun and great variety in it: would also give you a broad overview of many DC characters you may not know. Due to the format, you would probably enjoy it more in single issues than the collected edition. It was printed as a broadsheet sized paper!

Thanks, Doc'. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the warning of Identity Crisis. Final Crisis any good? The various Crisisisis are very confusing. DC seems to be obsessed over reboots.
No I have never read 2000AD. Perhaps the odd issue when I was a kid. I've obviously heard of Judge Dredd, but never read him. Please don't be mad.

There's some very good stuff in 2000 AD. Very glad I started picking it up regularly a few years back. The anthology nature works well too. Very rarely do I feel that all an issues strips are not for me and often I enjoy them all.

I find DC's reboot approach to their comics to be deeply tedious and is the main reason why as man and boy I've never cared about DC as a 'thing'. I like some of their characters and have enjoyed some of their titles before they all went GRIMDARK but the DC Universe as a thing leaves me cold. There's no incentive to get attached when it will all be rebooted anyway. As for 2000AD, we can get you into that. Need to have a think... -Ralph

Problem with 2000AD is that its so diverse, getting a flavour of it from a few GNs is impossible unless you focus purely on Dredd. To understand what it is I'd say just go back to the last jumping on point, in this case #2184 and buy that from the 200AD shop to see if the contents click. If they do enough that you want to find out what happens next, you're off.
Or maybe pick up the special that has just come out because it'll be in shops until mid-august going by the cover date. That's a celebration of the 2000AD style, so it would give a good feel for the weekly.

I'm starting to sense 'THAT' about DC. It's very different to Marvel...
2000AD is the stuff of legend and may well be in my future. But not yet. Problem I have is I can only focus on one thing at once. And I have to feel it. I never know what or when, something just pops, and I -responsibly- feed The Beast.
Batman was The Beast (AND STILL IS), then Batman interacting with Superman was The Beast, now Superman is The Beast. I don't know what the next Beast will be, but The Beast always comes. There are Constant Beasts as well.

Sorry, I've been hitting the DIY hard and have had late afternoon beer...

So where are up to...
Really into Superman.
Death of Superman. Bit dated in a way, but it's just non-stop action! Return of Superman arrived yesterday but not read it yet.
Man and Superman. A Clark Kent story about his first arrival in Metropolis. Very nice comic. My only complaint is it's too short, perhaps even rushed at the end. I wanted more from this world.
Kingdom Come. Ok. Very different. Snippets were familiar. Did I take this out the library years ago or something? It's that kind of feeling, where I've borrowed it on a whim but didn't understand it. Difficult to identify the characters and events. But on second reading it made sense. The art is glorious, and the Superman in it is fascinating.
I also have secured 'Secret Origin' but not read it yet.

Grabbed a deluxe JLA vol 4 on the cheap. Had World War 3 and Tower of Bable in it. Very good indeed. Rollerciasters of action. The fast pacing left me a bit giddy. Too fast? Too giddy? Maybe. Good fun though. The end of Tower of Bable was... WOOOAAAWWW.... He knew... He knew...
