The limited one isn't due out until the normal one goes on sale. I think the only difference between them is the number on the box and the image on the inlay behind the car. The rest of it all is identical.

The more time goes by, the more convinced i am that Runamuck would have been a better base.
On the surface is teems like it couldn't have the inverting wheels or functioning gull wings, but given the level of retooling requited to give those to sideswipe, I'm not convinced it couldn't be done on Runamuck.
But worst case scenario is that's a trade off for having a significantly more visually interesting robot mode that makes better use of the unique design elements of the time machine.
And given the mold's chest not being part of the vehicle, it would feel more natural for the flux capacitor to end up there than turn up oversized in the middle of the car's hood, as with Sideswipe.

Arrived today. Windscreen in hand is dark enough to obscure the gubbins inside. It's not completely opaque, but good enough. Packaging A+ G1 style. Looks great next to Ectotron.

I got my Gigawatt today!
My one complaint about using Sideswipe as a base has always been that it wouldn't make any use of the iconic looks and uniqueness of the time machine, and as predicted, it doesn't.
But what I didn't catch until I had it in hand, is there's no reason for this.
There is massive retooling going on. There's no reason that his leg transformation couldn't have been reversed to have all that sci-fi gribble be on the front of his legs instead of tucking it away to be hidden.
It sounds like I don't like him, which couldn't be further from the truth! It's just I don't have much good to say that hasn't been said. It's a pretty straightforward Siege Sideswipe remold. I great one, but basically it's still Sideswipe (unlike Ectotron over Hotspot). The chest area is reengineered more than you'd think, but it still functions largely the same.
The head is even reminiscent of Sideswipe.
As for the vehicle, we're all familiar with the time machine.
Everything positive I have to say about it as a toy is exactly the same as I've said about Sideswipe, or Red Alert, or Tigertrack.
My complaints about the toy we got are I wish the legs had been reversed, and I wish the flux capacitor on his chest had been smaller/more to scale (though it's not as bothersome to me in hand as it looked in pictures)

Gigawatt is possibly my favourite toy of last year.
You might be right that another car mould or different reengineering could have brought in more of the delorian to robot mode, but I don't care because the one thing Sideswipe has going for it over the other car options is Sideswipes rock solid robot mode. Also it still really reminds me of G2 Autobot and that just amuses me.

Okay so two things:
I realized he has flux capacitors sculpted onto his knees. Nifty!
Also I now want a BttF3 retool
-new cowboy head
-new gun(s), stylized six shooters
-rail wheels
-dirty deco
-cloth poncho
-maybe a boiler plate that pops over his flux capacitor.
