I was expecting a bit more out of wheelie than being a minicon. Also Jazz without the door wings is just wrong. Well considering that the Studio Series line is meant to be all about accuracy and scale it's not surprising. Although given that Grimlock's size shifts if you compare him standing next to Hot Rod earlier in the film alongside his size relative to the Sharkticons, the pursuit of scale and accuracy may prove to be a foolish one... And unfortunately a lack of door wings for Jazz is accurate to his cartoon portrayal - hopefully though it'll be possible to give him wings somehow anyway, given where the doors must be attached to achive this cartoon-like look. As for me, it looks like I'll be getting Jazz anyway, since he's the conjunx's favourite character, and she was unimpressed by his PottoP iteration. And wings or no wings, it looks like he'll be a fairly decent character anyway. Grimlock I'm on the fence about. Given I was lucky enough to pick up the Hasbro MP Grimlock during a Toysaurus sale weekend for only £40, this one'll have to bring something pretty interesting to the table to warrant picking up. And yes, I do mean more interesting than a wee rhyming shitebag.

I quite like Jazz without door wings, not because Sunbow, but because Jazz toys almost always have door wings so he looks a little different this time, and it also distinguishes him more from the Datsun boys. Also it makes him more like Action Master Jazz!
Grimlock though... I'll have to see more than that to know if this one is any good, but however good the mould is I'll hold out until there's a repaint with gold instead of yellow. Which is pretty much inevitable.

And yes, I do mean more interesting than a wee rhyming shitebag. And that's inherently the fundamental problem with scale accuracy to sunbow. In one scene, Bumblebee is 18 feet tall, and in the very next, he's 7 feet tall- barely bigger than Spike. Starscream and Soundwave are almost always shown as equal to Megatron. Who is always shown as equal to Optimus. But then Starscream and Soundwave are also always on par with Prowl, who is always smaller than Optimus and Megatron. "Leader class Grimlock and Wheelie twopack" gave me the impression that we'd get a large voyager grimlock, which would put him at being a head taller than optimus, which lines up with the most consistent sunbow scale for him. Then a legends/core class Wheelie that was unencumbered by needing to seat a titanmaster. Which would also put him in the correct scale. Instead it looks like oversized grimlock because why not? And minicon wheelie. Sure this matches one scene and one scene only, but these screwed up hotrod to match only one scene, also. So I don't really know why I thought I should expect different.

I think we’re overthinking it. All this needs to do is scale to itself.
It’s not the same line as WFC so that’s irrelevant

Scale in Transformers is irrelevant. No two fans can agree on it!

In fairness, Sunbow scale massive Dinobots, I can get behind. Dinobots as super powerhouses is better for me than combining Dinobots.

My only qualm with Grimlock being taller than Prime is that iconic moment from The Wrath of Grimlock where a remote controlled headless Prime grabs Grimlock to stop him from shooting Guardian, and is just towering over him. That's my canonical source for scale!

I know things are never perfect but Dinobots have to be significantly bigger than Prime. With Siege and Earthrise figures being smaller generally this seemed like a good time for some towering Dinos

I demand Transformers that expand and contract to the desired scale of any Transformer. Just add heat or cold.

The dinobots are almost always shown as being a head taller than optimus. I'd personally not call that significantly larger.
To me, most characters look ridiculous when dramatically oversized or undersized. But I'll admit Grimlock is one of the very few exceptions who can be dramatically oversized and still look decent. I've used MP Grimlock in my Classics display since we've never gotten a single 85 design update that either qualifies as one (foc grimlock is aligned), or isn't the shittiest toy imaginable (both foc and potp), and it looks mostly fine. A bit silly, but not nearly as silly as MP Sideswipe would look there. (Though it helped that until ER, the Prime I used was Toyworld's ultra class sized Orion. With the newer voyager ER optimus, grimlock suddenly became comical)

I'll wait for better photos to get too excited or or not. Jazz looks good. Grimlock looks slightly off (arms look slightly long), but given the quality of the image and the odd ways they sometimes stuff toys in to packaging who knows.

Because this is the third sunbow hotrod in five years, and while it's a good substitute, Jazz isn't nearly as snazzy as RtS Jazz?

Jazz is a Deluxe and 86 01
Hot Rod is a Voyager and 86 04
If this follows the Earthrise convention of sizes rising with the numbers that means there's a maximum of 3 Deluxe in SS Deluxe w1.

I bought two and both broke with snapped plastic cracks out of the packaging. I worry if I have just reached my limit on certain characters being done in a G1 style so often. I thought I would be all over a TF:TM style range but it's honestly leaving me cold thus far. -Ralph

I don't know what's being said on twitter, but given the MAGA bs of the PotP version, it's not unwarranted to suspect this is a reference to "14 Words," which is a nazi dogwhistle.

If it wasn't for POTP Jazz I'd argue it was just a number and an unfortunate coincidence choosing a number with a link to something. www.adl.org/hate-symbols?cat_id%5B152%5D=152But POTP Jazz happened and for something else to pop up on a second Jazz toy looks too much of a coincidence

But it's just the number 14 on a toy. I've never heard of the number 14 being a problem.
Are we not seeing something that isn't there here??
Did his car mode say 14 in the movie? G2 Jazz had a number 1 on it.

If it was a one of I'd write it off as coincidence, but after MAGA on POTP Jazz...
I get if they can't use 4 on him because that's too close to a copyrighted real life racing car. But you'd have thought there could be any number of better choices than one that has altright connotations.
Jazz's character model just has a 4 on it, I believe.

I'd like to think we were but after something with similar connotations on a previous Jazz it does look suspicious. Did his car mode say 14 in the movie? G2 Jazz had a number 1 on it. With the exception of G2, Jazz's toys have consistently been numbered 4 tfwiki.net/wiki/Jazz_(G1)/toys#Studio_SeriesIt's 4 in the cartoon tfwiki.net/wiki/Jazz_(G1)/Generation_1_cartoon_continuity

We in the UK may see nothing particular about '14' but it certainly seems to be a thing in parts of American culture. And as people say this follows on from MAGA Jazz too.
