Nearly finished the decking. Been an ongoing process for about 3 or 4 years. Started by trying to change the layout from an L to a square. Half the frame was rotten so had to replace loads of it and a lot of the decking boards werent in great shape. Eventually decided to replace with scaffolding boards. I think we got them late 2018, last year got as far as ripping up the old deck and laying the new frame. Got the boards laid out but not secured last October and then I got back to it in March. But lockdown started so I could only use the supplies I already had for three months.
Also couldn't get rid of the remains of the old decking for the same reason so recycled them in to garden storage alongside the neighbours garage. The top of it provides a great spot for the plants that want lots of sunlight.
Anyway after being able to hire an industrial sander (great fun, recommended!) Im now rounding the edges nice and smooth with a palm sander, they are reall nice to walk on now. Got about 8 or 9 boards left then I can get them all screwed down and apply oil.

I've been waiting to dismantle the old pond in the garden which is now possible as Joy is driving again and the tip is open! Father-in-law is building flowerbeds outside the front of our house which is good. I will be buying a few supplies in this week to finish off jobs around the house and to rat proof the understairs cupboard. That at least is smelling better now that I cleared and cleaned it. Ralph didn't take his bedroom rat away with him last summer.

I sometimes hear a rat in my attic. Trying to deter it with an ultrasonic rat repeller thing, which worked like a charm when I had them up there a few years ago. This time from what I can hear it doesn't seem to be completely repelling them but does seem to be stopping them lingering for long.

As for DIY, as I have never owned a property I've never been able to make modifications of any kind as that would break the terms of the lease.

I told you I heard a rat down there and you denied it!!! Denied it!!! -Ralph Of course I denied it. The aim was to drive you mad. The rat was in on it! To be fair though we found those rats dead under the study after they chewed through our radiator pipes and cost us a lot of money this winter. This rat moved in a few months ago and evaded all our traps. We used to hear him scurry about many places in the house. Not heard from him since I obliterated his nest.

Do. It. Yourself.
There's a reason why that's a thing.
Anyway. We have... LOTS to do. Lived in this house for ten years. Done quite a lot, gradually. But only since the extension have we decided to accelerate our efforts and, indeed, do it ourselves.
Doing the rewiring is fine. The problem is what has been left behind. Sins of the father. Absolute twat bastards. That, and a combination of of being incredibly busy and home-schooling and cuntish builders... well, it's approaching stressful.
All one can do is fight. Strive. And never give in. The alternative is... DEATH.
Lots of people would love my problems.
I PLAYED WITH A BIG FREAKIN' POWER TOOL MECHANICAL CHISLER DEVICE THE OTHER DAY! GREAT FUN.

No, Classics Jetfire is just fine, thanks.
I don't know where to begin. Diagonal wires going across the wall, old wires running in bizzar ways, mysterious cut-off wires- are they live..? ARE THEY?!?! Go on... grab it.... GRAB IT!. Grab it, you coward... grab it and join the fearless crew of the Starship 'FUCK YOU TRADESMAN-CUNTS!'
Not a ship's name that rolls off the tongue it's true, but...
ALL WE NEED IS GUILE.
