Stargirl is seriously threatening to unseat Legends of Tomorrow as my favorite Arrowverse show. It's now firmly with LoT, Black Lightning, and Doom Patrol as my favorite DC shows.

I read an article about this and wondered if it was going to be a bit young for me. I don't think it has a home over here yet. Is it an Arrowverse universe show or something standalone?

It's both. It's arrowverse family but it's in the new Earth 2, while Earth Prime (i hate that because according to DC lore, we in the real world are Earth Prime) still hasn't figured out the multiverse still exists.
It's young, but it's not young like you mean, if that makes any sense. The kids feel like authentic teenagers (opposite of Riverdale). They do exactly what you'd think a teenager with superpowers would do, but never come off annoying.
But while it deals with dark topics, it's not at it's core dark. It's fun loving. It's joyous. It's a completely different vibe to any other superhero show. Probably closest to Legends of Tomorrow (only without the irreverence), and the late seasons of Agents of Shield, than it is with the rest of the arrowverse, titans, or doom patrol.

I was just about to say I'll give it a go then, but having checked I see over here it's going on Amazon Prime in August. I don't do the Prime thing because I'm still finding too much to watch on Netflix.

As we're coming to the close of Season 1 here, I hope you guys get access. It's a bit less action oriented than Supergirl, Flash, or the others, but the action scenes when we get to them feel more earned, polished, and big budget. I think it's a smaller budget overall, but they use what they have so much more smartly. They rely less on CG, using it instead to enhance what we're seeing. And they built the damn robot! The giant 12 foot STRIPE is an actual prop! I mean of course they also have a CG version for action scenes, but the actors have an actual giant robot to act off of!

I read an article about this and wondered if it was going to be a bit young for me. Out on shiny disc in the UK now. It's 15-rated so definitely not aimed at children. But it's good-spirited and fun. And the retro stuff in it is a joy. Martin

Binge-watched that 13-episode series in 5 nights. Cracking finale, possibly the best I've seen in recent superhero TV shows. This series is the complete opposite of the DC movie universe in so many ways - all for the better.

I've dropped it into my Amazon watchlist to give it a go at some point. That has been somewhat delayed as two seasons of The Expanse have taken priority, but I will give it a go in due course.

About half way through season 1 now. I do like the retro Golden Age vibe that apparently happened around 2000 on Earth 2.
Its actually a lot closer to Riverdale and Sabrina than the Arrowverse shows structurally, though as Jetty said not character. Which I take as a good thing, a bit of variety is badly needed after nearly a decade 20+ seasons.
The small town setting is frankly a relief after all those downtown Vancovour location shoots.
Where Im disagreeing with Jetty is that the teenagers are slightly annoying to me. Its a very "Im a teenager and I know best and will utterly ignore you" show. Even as a very young kid that kind of character irritated me. However accurate it may be. It's probably why I never got in to things like The Beano. I can usually deal with one or two, but this show its all of them.
I think its meant to be part of the learning curve and Im enjoying everything else, but if it doesnt ease off its whats going to make me drop it.

Another slight annoyance, all the white guys in the show look alike. Except Luke Wilson who is actually really good.

While I havent been giving the show 100% of my attention while watching it, the degree to which they have hired generic white North American men is astounding. I usually only have this much of an issue on things like early Game of Thrones when they throw a dozens of characters at you all with beards, long hair and thick fur coats. Even then after 12 episodes Ive usually managed to keep track of whose who.
