I'm not much for reinventing old characters with old gimmicks. At least, not in the way hasbro does it now.
If they weren't combiners before, they don't need to be now. If they weren't headmasters before, they don't need to be now.
I've no interest in scramble styled combining Optimus, Cyclonus, Dinobots, Jazz, Ironhide... Particularly if they're absolutely horrible repaints that don't remotely evoke the original character (Sunstreaker, ironhide, prowl, hound).
I don't mind old characters reinvented with new gimmicks as much though (potp rodimus), or new characters added into older gimmicks. (Headmaster Windblade doesn't bother me nearly as badly as Headmaster Blurr, given we already had a serviceable toy for her, but not Blurr)

Yeah, the CW combining Autobot cars were fun, but ultimately not what was required.

Hasbro know that people will buy different versions of popular characters no matter the gimmick. It means they an produce multiple gimmicks on singular best selling characters.
The idea of the Dinobots having a combined form is amazing on paper, but is so disheartening in reality.

Wow. All the reviews of Volcanicus make him look lanky and somewhat silly. But the Mall Exclusive Takara version is by far tbe best combiner wars toy of them all. This is amazing. I got these for the Dinobots with Volcanicus an after-thought. Now it's like my all time favorite toy and the combined mode is the best overall mode in the set. It's mind bogglingly amazing. There are no proportion issues. I mean look: petessuperrobots.blogspot.com/2021/05/volcanicus.htmlThis is just amazing. People seem to really mistransform the legs and waist. He's really streamlined and just perfect. Yes, Takara have done great with the add on parts, but still, just wow. End review. |

This set is amazing!!! I did not expect to be so blown away but I now like Volcanicus more than the original Dinobots even!
