So here's the thing...
For a long while I've pretty much exclusively collected Masterpiece figures. My ideal (going back to the early MP days, unfortunately not so much the focus of the line now) is that I want them to be as close to real world representations of alt-modes as possible and robot modes that pay a strong homage to the various media that represented the character with a strong proportion aesthetic ...Except that is in the case of Masterpiece Beast Wars, where the adherence to animation models fills me with much joy.
Do you have any contradictions in your collecting habits?

I'll spend three, four, five months bitching about a toy, and then buy it as soon as I see it, if not outright preordering it.

No contradictions with me.
I am pure.
I was the one who let you know, I was your sorry ever after, '84, '85. Give me new toys and I'll decide, but I'm really only after, '84, '85.

I used to think my extreme dislike for "show accuracy" in G1 updates vs my desire for show accuracy in other series like Beast Wars and TFA was hypocritical.
But recently I realized that actually isn't the case because of a few reasons. · There are multiple iterations of G1. Toys, Sunbow, Marvel (with multiple styles), Dreamwave, and IDW. All with very different looks and stories. All to varying degrees of accessibility. Sunbow isn't the be all end all in G1. · There is an extreme glut of sunbow focused G1. Generations, Masterpiece, Super7, and now Studio Series and a new statue company, with almost zero attention to any style that isn't Sunbow. · Meanwhile, most other TF series barely have more than their own show. One major piece of fiction that is either based on toys, or toys are based on it, and all surrounding fiction supports it. · All the "Sunbow accurate" stuff fundamentally misunderstands the designs. Sunbow was a cheap cartoon with cheap animation that never intended these to be devoid of any sort of detail what so ever. They did these simplifications to be cheap. In "hero" shots and close ups, the models were usually much more detailed (depending on the studio that animated that episode). They look better when more detailed, too. Generations version of Sunbow looks galaxies better than MP or Super7.
As for a line called "Masterpiece," it needs to be the ultimate quintessential version of that character. That means different things for each different series, as to what that actually is.
So I don't think it's hypocritical at all to not want cartoon accuracy for G1, but crave it for another series that has never had it before, like BW.
