Not a mad Phil theory, this one is evidence based. Check out these '88 animation production model sheets for Sizzle and Fizzle. Note the colours and term "Sparkler Mini-Bot". Wouldn't be the first time Marvel Productions were left with information Hasbro updated and didn't pass on. The interesting thing is that this means the UK comic used the original idea before the changes.

Is it also a coincidence that the two Sparkabots also had their art muddled on their G2 toys packaging?
