My Godfathers, I love atlases. I like historical atlases the most. Not old atlases from olden times, but modern atlases that depict olden times. If ya know what I mean. For example: THE TIMES ATLAS OF EUROPEAN HISTORYwww.goodreads.com/book/show/1193068.The_Times_Atlas_of_European_HistoryIt is a brilliantly presented book. The same map of Europe page by page. So as you go through the book you watch countries change, empires wax and wane. It is a visual geopolitical feast. Changed my life because it birthed my interest in history which is an interest that provides me with much fascination. But you also can beat a good geographical atlas showing only the natural features of the planet, national boarders removed.

That looks very interesting. -Ralph It's amazing, Doc'. It just helps to put historical events in a physical context. One gets a bit fed up of the endless wars though.

Me too. If I see a map, anywhere, I just have to stare at it, and have to force myself to stop looking at it. Became a bit of a problem in patient's homes.

- Thank goodness you've come! It's my husband; I think he's having a heart attack! - Okay madam, stay calm. Firstly we need some essential information. - Yes? - Is that the Wirral peninsular under Viking occupation I can see on the living room wall?

Very well indeed.
I read it all the time.
Did you ever get a copy, Doctor? About a fiver on Amazon for a first edition.
I have others.
The Times Atlas of the 20th Century is a good one.
The Cassell Atlas of Evolution is old but really good.
The Times Atlas of Archaeology is again old now but a brilliant read.

I don't know what that is. A graphic novel, I assume. If Martin's involved then I'm sure it's a very good tale, however it will pale into insignificance next to MAPS OF HISTORY.

You reject books, Doctor...?
Books?
The very toil of the human race which has been the engineering of the 'collective learning' that has slowly... so very slowly... elevated our civilisation what may just pass as... self-aware....?

I have always appreciated the Atlas, but I am becoming quite fond of the Atlas II in recent years for its far superior ranged-combat performance. Sorry, this is the Atlas appreciation thread right? :-) Karl
