Yeah but once they know Sideswipe is a specific red car they can continuously scan for him.

Yeah, not too many bright red Lamborghini Countachs on the streets. Much less Mirage and his amazing Ligier F1 car disguise.

Give the Bayverse credit where it's due. The TFs there keep switching their disguise modes on the move whenever they see a new vehicle they fancy being. Makes them much more effective robots in disguise.
In the Marvel US comic ('Rock and Roll Out'), they could hide their symbols.
Controversial suggestion: You don't _have_ to apply Sideswipe's Autobot stickers.

A small discreet faction symbol on a car (go away Spy changer Prowl) isnt the same as having your name and photo emblazoned on a massive trailer. Decepticon jets would have to get pretty close up to an Autobot car to notice a grumpy Autobot badge. Yeah, they could zoom in, using high tech space robot sensors, but they'd be doing that for a long time on a lot of vehicles in heavy traffic. And by the time they'd have found Sideswipe's identity, he'd have already transformed and shot the suspicious jet that kept hovering above cars scanning them in the first place. To add another layer, a cherry apple red or bright yellow supercharged Lamborghini on an american street is only a slightly better disguise than a bright blue F-15. Symbols are fine because what makes for an interesting toy never works as a disguise when you think about it. A raccoon is a much better disguise than a velociraptor. Bumblebee is the only autobot who consistently chooses alt modes that actually blend in. And ironically, the yellow Camaro is an effective disguise only because Bumblebee chose it, lol.

Every other car was a red lamborgini in the 80's world of pop wasn't it!?
The films scanning on the go makes sense practically but then doesn't make sense at all as it's way too far fetched for me. Never liked it. (Except in Beast Machines when it was a special ability).
