I havent seen the remake for 17 years (probably) so I could be well off, but given Ralphs enjoyment of the Fast and the Furious series the remake may be suitable.
And you know, Statham.

Ralph has texted to say he is watching The Italian Job.
When asked if it was the original he said it was the Statham/Wahlberg version because "the other one is not on Netflix, Prime, iPlayer, Britbox or Council TV"
He will thank me for the action I have just taken on his behalf.

It's boring. Direction is flat. Most of the chase is 'car goes past still camera'. The characters lack character. Lack of score. The mafia are set up as a threat but do fuck all. Also: it lacks an ending.
I honestly don't see what's so special about it.
My wife loved it.

It's definitely a film that you can tell they didn't know how to end. Love it or hate it, by ending the way it did it has one of the most famous and most discussed film endings in the history of cinema, which contributed to the film's longevity. I think it would not have such fame today if it had had a conventional conclusion. Martin

True. And while I've mostly just seen the end of the film (mostly the car chase stuff) I've not seen the rest to know if its thematic or not. Like, is the whole film a series of increasingly perilous mishaps, with Charlie saying "I've got a plan"? If it is, then it probably works. If not, then it runs the risk of being unsatisfying, or worse, sequel bait.

If not, then it runs the risk of being unsatisfying, or worse, sequel bait. It's only unsatisfying if the motivations of the characters is misunderstood. In this case I believe it's clear that the motivation isn't for the monetary rewards, but in pulling off the job itself. This was a film before studios were always thinking about sequels and making franchises from IP, so I'm not sure there is much of an argument for sequel bait.
