"Red Cog" is, of course, an anagram of "Codger", which is how I'll be referring to him henceforth.

Skids and Kickback are grand. So much better than the Bulkhead abomination which exited my house an hour after trying to transform the bastard.

Bulkhead would have been a perfectly good toy, but ruined by transformation scheme designed by a maniac.

I like Bulkhead. He is a challenge at first but once you get the hang of what's going on he isn't that bad.
You could have used the instructions?

As I have already said several times, I consulted the instructions. I also watched some youtube videos. I couldn't transform it. After an hour I gave up and tossed it in a charity donations box.
I get absolutely no joy from complicated toys. Feeling stupid is not a winner. No fun for me there.

Totally agree. I don't bother transforming a lot of figures these days because of that. Infact Masterpiece for me is a robot mode display thing - I never transform them. That's one of the reasons why I've found so much joy in going back to earlier years - the toys are more fun because you can transform them in seconds. I only go back to Generations for ankle rockers.

It's probably why I slowly came round to 1-steps (and lament their passing). Transforming a toy in a few seconds is loads more fun.

I don't get why after the slavish G1 accuracy in the previous core class figures that this one is a mad mish-mash of different Shockwaves. I'm not sure it's doing anything the legends Shockwave doesn't do already.

I guess because he turns into a handgun, and they can't market that any more? So we have this instead? I'm not sure it's doing anything the legends Shockwave doesn't do already. Perhaps not, but then to my mind the previous Legends-scale see- attack plane mold is superior to the Core Starscream, which doesn't bring anything new to the table for me, either, so... I guess the advantage is that you can buy these versions.

This Shockwave looks more like the FoC one to me than the original, he also has the kind of hyper-detailing that messed up the Siege Shockwave and the other cores don't have that. Perhaps not, but then to my mind the previous Legends-scale see- attack plane mold is superior to the Core Starscream, which doesn't bring anything new to the table for me, either, so... I guess the advantage is that you can buy these versions. That's another aesthetic thing. The previous Legends scale jets were styled on the IDW characters of the time, the new ones are more Sunbow. So it's just a question of what appeals, but the styles don't necessarily fit together. I guess I was just hoping with these, Hasbro had seen the popularity of the Legends scale in the 3P market and were going for a more comprehensive approach to compete, but it already seems to be diverging and changing again into something that doesn't feel cohesive.

As an Old Fart Fan, I just continue to be delighted that I can actually buy Shockwave toys off of shop shelves. I'll take them in any flavour.

Yup. Now we complain about the quality of a constant drove of Arcee toys. This Old Fart Fan remembers the decades of asking for Hasblowwww to make just one.

To my eyes he doesn't look any more over-detailed than the Core Prime, but that might just be me. But fair enough in terms of the styling - although I can't say I'm particularly surprised. That's another aesthetic thing. The previous Legends scale jets were styled on the IDW characters of the time, the new ones are more Sunbow. So it's just a question of what appeals, but the styles don't necessarily fit together. Yeah. And this is one of the reasons why I'll not be bothering with him - I already have a Core-scale Shockwave that doesn't quite match the Sunbow styling - he'll be enough for me for now.
