If James figures are correct about when they could have started printing G2, that means they would only have needed 18 issues or 90 pages of new material to have kept the comic going for an extra three and a half years.
They could have gotten most of that if they had gone monthly at whatever point they finished printing US#75 and with a bit of planning have had the Joe comics perfectly align with the pre G2 crossover issues.
Okay so there wouldnt have been any new material but getting G2 as part of the UK run would have been nice.

If the G2 comics would have been unchanged in this scenario, and make no effort to link up with the UK comic, presumably that would have created a continuity challenge. Say, if the UK comic had had lots of stories on Earth, and done stuff with Megatron and the Ark, and got rid of characters like Bludgeon and replaced them with UK exclusive characters like Skyquake. Maybe there would have had to be a time travel story to erase events and reset the timeline before the new US stories could be printed.

Martin I always thought that the G1.5 characters (Skyquake, etc) were from the far future so another time-travel story wouldn't have been too difficult to bridge the gap with it as a filler story-arc without too many continuity headaches.

They would have known about the g2 toyline within a few issues of going monthly. And Furman (if he was on writing duties for the UK comic) would have known about the G2 comic as soon as he was asked so would have had plenty of time to rework the UK strips to line up with G2.
Thats assuming that the UK run wouldnt have altered how he approached the G2 comic.

Yeah, like he did with Earthforce and the Uni- Hmmm. Martin
